In and out of the Labs
Maggie was leading the dinosaurs out of the cave; her adrenaline was pumping, and she was breathing hard. All of her reluctantly-gained training was in full-gear, and while she remained calm, so as not to mess up her hair, she was also intensely aware of her surroundings. Behind her, Ahrima was in full on battle mode; they were a team, finally coming together as they should. Captain Evans was jumping in, and finally, she was "Lt. Lefebvre," instead of "Maggie the Maneater." She wasn't sure how to feel about this, but there wasn't time to think.
She was staring down one of the dinosaurs; she'd figured out they fed on her fears-yeah, Ahrima SAID she didn't have any, but whatever. They were going to eat Jaffa cakes if she weren't careful. Maggie was no longer fearful-being Maggie, she had few things she cared enough about to even harbor fears of. So now that her mind was blank, the dinosaur seemed to be probing her. With it's mind. It spent a lot of time feeding her information about herself-that she needed to eat more, and run less, and all the same jazz she'd heard the last 20 years. Her food issues had started young, and her need to appear perfect started before THAT.
The dinosaur seemed to give up, as though it sensed that Maggie was more fragile than she appeared. This struck Maggie as odd; the one that was staring at her made a quiet noise to the others, and they fell away. She heard the Captain's voice.
I think we should leave. Right now. The dino who had stared her down nodded. What?! She sighed, and backed up, back into the cave. Once safely inside, between Mulholland and Ahrima, she spoke to Eastlyn.
As much as I hate to say so, he's right. She looked at Elly, and then Dr. Harrison. She was serious, and quiet, and this should send a message.
After a moment, an urgent message from the dinosaurs came to her.
You would be spared. You're with child. She turned her eyes to the door. What the hell?! That had to be for....well. Could Ahrima actually procreate?! Or...well. She knew as well as anyone that Evans and Eastlyn had a THING, but...it didn't seem like THAT kind of thing. So. It was her. Damn it.
Suddenly, she felt ill, and bent to her left. Poor Mulholland caught the end of her sickness on his shoes. Dr. Harrison was at her side in a moment; she could hear him yelling to give her some space. She needed to lie down. She needed to cry. She needed to get the hell out of here.
I need to sit down for a minute. Sorry, James... Dr. Harrison said something about radiation poisioning. She'd tell him later. She sat down against Ahrima, who'd joined her on the floor. Now what?!
