Aear was sulking outside of the city, he was heading out into the jungle and for a good reason. A good few reasons actually. For one he was starting to get irritated by people and the flashbacks were not helping. He'd also get away from that damned AMF that Meropis security insisted on having pretty much everywhere. Yeah, he was totally going to be the big scary war machine when his Linker Core barely even worked enough to run his MaDaR.

The other reason for him to be out so late in the jungle was that he was hungry. He hadn't eaten anything but the morsels Fee had pawned of on him since he got here, not that foods of such nature gave him any real nutrition. Of course there was a certain kind of enjoyment that could be gained from going for a hunt and it was a combination of anxiety and excitement that made Aear not notice he was being followed.

"Set MaDaR to maximum efficiency. I'm gonna need the biggest mana source that isn't human."

[Understood. Adding targeting data to HUD. Nanite shift to magical vision.] Aear device chimed out as Aear slowed. The idea was to move nanites into his left eye to replace the type of vision. Well it worked, Aear now had half some strange (to anyone else at least) rainbow styled vision. He could not only see the trees and animals glowing but an almost river like substance in the air. Even stranger (again to everyone else), Aear's vision was travelling along the mana in the air (that river thing) and it wasn't long before he'd picked up his target a few miles away.

Aear used his claws and Cyleo's strength to climb into a nearby tree, grinning to himself as the idea of showing Fee what he was seeing came to him. She was amusing to tease.

Fee followed Aear out; Jacques snuggled into the pocket of her hoodie. She would let him out once they were far enough away from the compound, but she couldn't risk simply carrying him, and while she DID have a carrier, it looked too purse-like for the normally poorly-dressed Technical Analyst to carry...people would notice.

She headed for a lightly wooded area where Jacques could sniff around and do his business while she worked. Her tablet did AMAZING things, even this far from base.

She swiped a piece of fruit from a tree; it LOOKED like a pear, and tasted similarly, so she munched while she watched her dog and her tablet. She was simply inputting data at this point; she would sleep soon. She just wondered where the heck Aear was; she'd not seen him all day.

Ryan hadn’t slept in over 24 hours. With the previous day events Ryan and what was left of his team had been tasked with helping secure Meropis. It had taken the rest of the night and much of next day. Ryan had finally been allowed to a brief respite, one that he needed. He probably should have been sleeping, but with everything that had happened, Ryan couldn’t sleep. His body was tired but his mind was racing. He had nearly lost 3 marines, and he was thankful that he hadn’t. HE had talked with the doc before he had decided to go for a walk and they were on track to making a full recovery, for that Ryan was grateful. There were other tragedies that had happened, Lieutenant Commander Hooper had sacrificed himself for the base and Doctor Black had gotten some sort of sickness to help save the city, or something to that effect. A lot had happened, and people were recovering but for Ryan, a walk outside in the fresh air would do him wonders.

Before Ryan had been accepted into the Stargate Program he had taken up wood working as a hobby to help calm his mind when he was having trouble sleeping. Luckily he had brought some of his tools with him and had received permission to go out into the forest and acquire some supplies. It was late in the evening and he was exhausted but he needed to start his hobby again. He was in another Galaxy with strangers. He didn’t have the friends that he had back in the Carolina’s or on Pendleton.

Ryan had no idea that Fee and Aear were only a little bit away. He hadn’t bothered to check if anyone was out here. He had been briefed the surface was fairly safe but he had decided to bring a Zat Gun with him just in case. After running out of ammo during his fight against the creatures, Koan, he corrected, he didn’t liked the thought of being limited to what equated to a handful of rounds. Other than the firearm, Ryan and brought a small hatchet and some rope.

Once Ryan had made it to the tree line he had been inspecting the trees. He was looking for one that was older, but still heathy. He had no intention of cutting down a tree, he just needed a limb and he didn’t want cut off a limb that would damage the tree. Ryan swore he surveyed a dozen or so trees before finding one that looked to be what was looking for. “Well, look at you.” He said to himself as he started to climb. He found a branch that had the right thickness. “Perfect.” He said aloud. He anchored himself to the trunk and stated chopping the limb. He had picked one that wouldn’t be too difficult to carry but still one that he could utilize.

It took him a little while to chop through to a point that he could start putting weight on it split it. “Timber!” He yelled a small smile spreading across his face, as the branch separated and fell to the ground with a loud crack. “That never gets old.” He said to himself as he started to climb down tree and inspect the branch.

Fee watched Jacques sniff around. She needed him to be close-so she could scoop him up if someone came, and hide him back in her pocket. She munched a bit more on her pear-thing, and finished sending an internal email to Glavish. That man was going to find himself with a Ginger storm one of these days, if he weren't careful. She put the machine in her pocket to enjoy the quiet. She needed quiet for once-with all that was happening, she needed a break. Actually, she needed a good pisser*, but that wasn't likey to happen, and she was too old for that, anyway, anymore.

Then, something happened to shake up her peace and quiet.

TIMBER... What the actual hell?! She stood, and darted behind the boulder she sat on, grabbing Jacques with her, and picking up a stick to use as a weapon, she stuck her head around the corner. It was one of the Marines-she didn't know his name, but he was bloody nutter*, talking to himself. That never gets old. She sighed, and stood, making all 4'8'' of herself appear as big as possible...which wasn't very big, really. She held the stick out, and put Jacques in the pocket of her hoodie as she stepped out from behind the rock.

What are you ON about? You nearly killed me, and Jacques... She had her hand on her hip, and Jacques betrayed her by popping his black, furry head out at the sound of his name.

What are you ON about? You nearly killed me, and Jacques... Ryan hadn’t been expecting anyone to be out there, and had he not been so tired, he might have heard her coming, as it was, he was startled. With movement that was borne of hours of muscle memory Ryan turned, while in the process of drawing his Zat Gun. Whether it was luck or due to fatigue, he had turned before he had cleared the weapon from its holster. Ryan saw the angry red head, hand on her hip, but with a look that shoot down planes. Ryan relaxed his posture, though he noticed the furry head poking from the hood.

“I am sorry Miss, I didn’t realize anyone was out here, and I didn’t mean to scare you.” He said apologetically. He had yelled timber but it was possible that she didn’t know what that meant. Though he furrowed his brow for a moment a realization dawned on him. “Wait, what were you doing out here, and why do you have a dog? I am pretty sure they aren’t allowed on Meropis.”

The Irish were known for their temper, and even more for the female of the species to be filled with the fire. It WAS called "IRE"land, right?! At least that's how Fee justified her anger.

I am sorry Miss, I didn’t realize anyone was out here, and I didn’t mean to scare you. Her look didn't change as she answered him.

Well, weren't you TRAINED to secure a perimeter? I suggest KNOWING what is out here...there ARE aliens in space, you know. She rolled her eyes. The military blokes were all the same-trained to shoot first and ask questions later. He went on.

Wait, what were you doing out here, and why do you have a dog? I am pretty sure they aren’t allowed on Meropis. The look she gave him NOW was even firier than the previous one.

*I* am the Alien Liasion Officer. One of the aliens is missing, and it's MY job to secure him. I have a dog because I haven't got a husband, and me dad insisted I have something for safety if I were to live alone, not that it's your business. I am sure they're NOT allowed, but who are you going to tell?! Do you think they'll send me home? Who'll run comms if they do that? She did notice that Ryan hadn't actually drawn his weapon. She looked him over once.

Now that you know who I am, who are YOU? She softened a little-she wasn't exaclty mad, more scared than anything, actually, and she reached her hand into her pocket, and shoved Jacques' head back in, and gave him a pat.

It was one thing to be out and about and scaring someone, but it was another entirely to be insulting someone. But Ryan reigned in his emotions, it was ones of the hardest things that he had done. He was exhausted, and now he had a civilian insulting him, but he was to be professional, and he was sure that if he had been in her place, he would have been pissed to. “In fact Miss, I did check before I left base, I was the only one cleared outside, besides the normal patrols, but to each there own.” Ryan said. He wanted to defuse the situation. He was tired, and it showed.

I have a dog because I haven't got a husband, and me dad insisted I have something for safety if I were to live alone, not that it's your business. I am sure they're NOT allowed, but who are you going to tell?! Do you think they'll send me home? Who'll run comms if they do that? Ryan couldn’t believe this girl, sure she was justified in be angry, but now she was just being downright rude. He sighed. “You are right, it’s none of my business, I never should have asked.” Ryan replied. He let her control the
conversation.

Now that you know who I am, who are YOU? Ryan wanted to laugh. Sure he knew who the Liaison Officer was, but she hadn’t actually introduced herself. Inwardly Ryan shook it off. He wrote it off as he just being afraid, though there was something about her. “I do apologize for being rude. Maybe we should start over. I am Sergeant Alexander, I am sorry for scaring you. I was only gathering some timber for a project that I am working on during my free time.” He said trying to be diplomatic, and extending out his hand in greeting.

In fact Miss, I did check before I left base, I was the only one cleared outside, besides the normal patrols, but to each there own. She sighed. Clearly, he hadn't checked well enough, or some idiot, likely Glavish, hadn't recorded that SHE had checked out. She had sent an email to the pertaintent people, and had gotten out after Aear. She was PRETTY sure he was close by, but she didn't know where exactly, and she needed a break before she found him.

I am sorry someone didn't give you the notice I was here; didn't your mum ever tell you it's not a good idea to scare a lady alone? That's how one finds himself...less of a man, if you will. She wasn't entirely done being upset...mostly what hurt now was her pride.

He seemed to change tracts, though, to calm down.

“You are right, it’s none of my business, I never should have asked. He was absolutely right-you asked stupid questions, and you got stupid answers. I do apologize for being rude. Maybe we should start over. I am Sergeant Alexander, I am sorry for scaring you. I was only gathering some timber for a project that I am working on during my free time. She eyed him suspiciously, but her gut didn't immediately react. He seemed safe, so she forced herself to calm a little more.

I see. That was a good reason for him to be out in the woods alone.

And you are? She sighed, and then took his hand.

I am sorry, too, I didn't mean to be rude, you just gave me a canary. I am Fiona Maccafferty... She pointed to her pocket. And that is Jacques Maccafferty. Anyway, as I said, one of the aliens has gone missing, and I am meant to be finding him, but I needed a break first. The events lately have me a little bolloxed, and with Dr. Black down and Elly upset, we're short staffed in the labs and comms room... She prattled on. But you ARE right, dogs aren't allowed, and if you have to report it, I DO understand. She sighed, and hoped that no one would be TOO mad. Now, how to explain about Aear?!

He was having a hard time, and he had been trained for that level of stress, maybe not the whole getting attacked by aliens, but the knowledge that he could be put into a life or death situation at a moment’s notice wasn’t something that you forgot. He could only imagine what civilians must be feeling.

Ryan studied Fiona for a moment. “I didn’t see a thing.” He said motioning to the dog. Ryan decided he would give her the same courtesy he would give to any of his Marines. As long as the pooch didn’t become a problem, there was no reason to acknowledge that it was there. Ryan rubbed his forehead for a moment, the weight of the day’s events catching up to him. “Do you need help locating your Alien friend?” Ryan offered. He was sure she was more than capable but sometimes it didn’t hurt to have an extra pair of eyes.

The ground was soft, and there were a multitude of tracks. To be fair, Ryan had spent a fair time outdoors, but he had no idea what kind of tracks this Aear would leave behind, or the different kind creatures roamed the woods out her. “I hadn’t expected to be outside for so long, but I think I can manage, the cold should help me stay awake.” He said not trying to sound tough, but trying rather to build a report. Ryan noticed some broken twigs and branches, and the ground had been disturbed a bit. “How big is Aear, weight, height, and the like? There seems to be some disturbance this way,” Ryan motion east, “by something that appears to be about man sized. To be honest, I don’t know what kind of creatures live here, so it could be a native.” Ryan said, before looking back to Fee.

Ryan turned to see a movement dart from tree to tree. “Dr. Maccafferty, do you sense him behind us?” Ryan said as he pulled out the Zat Gun. He didn’t get a good look at it, but it looked bigger than 110 lbs, and it moved fast.

Fee was still staring at Ryan. It wasn't a good stare, or a bad stare. It was just a "Who even is this person?" stare.

You are welcome.... She nodded once. I ultimately didn’t go. But the campus was beautiful. I was able to see some of Ireland; I liked the Cliffs of Moor and the Giants causeway. Though I think my favorite was the Tollymore Forest and some of the Abby’s around the area. Fee paused for a moment. Was he making fun of her?! She didn't know. She tried to read his body language. Nerds didn't have much of that-it was more or less like "If my head is down, leave me alone. If my mouth is open, I am b*tching about something. Otherwise, they were ignoring everyone, working, and contemplating quantum mechanics. Or, at least, SHE was. Michael probably thought about rocks and things, and Elly, probably the minute differences between the three Celtic languages. Hell knew what Glavish did, and she didn't CARE.

Yes, it's lovely. My favorite is Newgrange, and the House of Tara. Did you see those?! They're more or less ancient archealogy sites, but lovely for day hikes and picnic. I love it. I MISS it. Why didn't you stay? True to form, her clumsy self tripped over something. Her ATA genes buzzed a little-it had to be some kind of communication system. Interesting. She'd need to investigate that further.

True, but I doubt that your friend would cause him to be disappointed, to be truly disappointed. She shrugged. Perhaps. Or perhaps not. She couldn't risk it, though she KNEW it was inevitable he found out sooner or later.

I dunno. I don't fancy trying your theroy. I'll figure it out soon enough. That was how she handled MOST of her life. Thinking on it until her mind and her gut agreed on a course of action. She operated mostly on logic; maths could solve just about EVERY problem. She'd write an algorithm, and run it through her computer. She'd have her answer in due course.

Yes, it's lovely. My favorite is Newgrange, and the House of Tara. Did you see those?! They're more or less ancient archealogy sites, but lovely for day hikes and picnic. I love it. I MISS it. Why didn't you stay? “I didn’t get a chance. I was only there for a week, and I didn’t know about those sites. But I am sure they would have been interesting. Even if they were just archeology sites, they still must have been a sight to see.” Ryan replied. He didn’t know how to describe the feeling he got when he went to ruins. Just trying to imagine the people that walked there, what they were like, what they were doing, why they were there. Even walking in Meropis, he would sometimes lose himself in a day dream. “I ended up not going because it wasn’t quite was I was looking for. I wanted to do something a little more math heavy.” It was true, he did want to be an Engineer which is why he had gone to the University of Illinois and it was part of the reason he was a meteorologist in the Marine Corps. He had gone to college to learn meteorology as well, though most people just say marine and assumed he was a rock. Let them assume. He noticed her trip and was going to move to help her up, up she as standing before he could get close. “Are you alright?” He asked.

It moved so fast that Ryan barely had time to react. Ryan fell to the ground firing the Zat gun as fast as it would cycle. The beast had appeared so suddenly that Ryan hadn't had the time to get a good bead on the creature. The beast soared over head, Ryan could feel the breath of the creature, its maw had been inches from Ryan’s face, he rolled and brought himself still firing. The stunning bolts of th weapon came close but the creature zipped into the trees before Ryan could properly aim. “I don't think I was able to it. Crap is it fast.” He said to Fee. He continued to scanned the area. “Fiona are you alright?” He had been saying that a lot lately, he was confident that she could handle herself, but Ryan was still a Marine, and some mannerisms were hard to break. He hadn’t expected this, and was glad that he had brought a weapon.
