Episode Six - The Eye of the Storm

He hated having his blood drawn, it was one thing for him to do it to someone else, but for someone to do it to him? It wasn't so much the needle that bothered him no... It was the sitting around while they took too long to get it all done. Pacing around the room Benedict was keeping pressure on the needle sight as he had been told, his arm bent at the elbow placing his fist by his head. Even though he still didn't like the fact he was having to wait he had to admit the piano music was pleasant to hear. Eventually he stopped pacing and sat on one of the beds and began tapping his feet. Looking up he watched the woman... Dr. Kells if he wasn't mistaken, enter the room and look around before leaving then asking if anyone messed with her cup. He chuckles slightly to himself before laying back on the bed and closing his eyes. There was no harm in getting some rest.

Then the woman spoke again... Saying the same thing... Again.... "You already asked that doc." He spoke politely with a hint of amusement in his voice. "Are ya testin' us? Or running a gag yerself?"

This waiting game was getting old... quickly.  Glavish stood there, making no attempts to conceal his impatience.  His eyes surveyed the infirmary, and he swore he could spy Doctor Kells lounging about the samples.  And what was this that they were listening to?  If the sounds of this piano music was supposed to have a calming effect, it was failing miserably.  Glavish was all but through with this little quarantine that Kells and West had imposed.  He was just about to say as much when he thought he heard a whisper behind him.  His head snapped around, but all he saw was Lt. Harris, lying back on the bed... resting.  Those military types could sleep through anything.  "Did you say something?" he asked.

Glavish turned to head to move in the direction of the rest room.  He was going in that room, and when came out, he had damned well better be cleared to depart.  He hadn't gone four steps when he caught himself stepping over what looked like some sort of spill.  It was red, and by the time he maneuvered mid-step and managed to step over the spill, when he turned around... it wasn't there anymore.  Glavish's brow furrowed as he looked around to see where it could have possibly have gone so quickly.  Last time he checked, the Ancients hadn't created a self-cleaning space.  Glavish shook his head.  This was just proof that it was time to go.

As he stepped out of the rest room, drying his hand with a towel, he tossed the cloth in a nearby bin.  He then began to make his way back to Kells.  She had to have had enough time to go through all the samples by now.  Though, as he did, he bumped into one of the lab techs and watched as a blood sample clattered to the floor, shattering.  "That better not have been mine," said Glavish.  His eyes looked down at the spill.  His eyes widened slightly.  That was the exact same spot he had stepped over earlier... the spill seemingly the same shape.  Glavish shook his head, moving away from the tech and back towards his original position.

"You already asked that doc. Are ya testin' us? Or running a gag yerself?"


Glavish pointed at the tech that was now kneeling and cleaning up the spill.  "Does that happen... often in here?" he asked.  "Spilling items frequently?" He wasn't really expecting an answer.  At least not one that would explain what he'd seen or what Harris had heard.  It could have been coincidence... collective fatigue... but those were lazy explanations for such displays of a collective sense of deja vu.  And that wasn't something that Glavish believed in either.  Though his mind told him to simply follow the scientific method for the time being... and so for now, he was content to observe.

Caiden helped draw blood as well as his own as he had one of the nurses go and test it to ensure we're not infected with something connected to this girl. Most likely they weren't infected, but being on an alien planet you learn to expect the unexpected especially when you work in Stargate Command. People turning into primitive man, finding an Ancient deep under the ice of Antarctica and giving the plague to SG-1 and the research scientists there, parasitic symbiotes taking over people, tiny leech like bugs making people go crazy and almost killing Teal'c and the list goes on. It never hurts to play on the safe side.

Caiden listened as the Doctors spoke along with the Army Officer Harris but Caiden had nothing to say. Glavish thinks he knows everything and he may know a lot but he is no Medical Doctor, he may be a biophysicist which is a weird major but he is what he is, he is a weird guy after all. Over time the nurse comes back with the results and we're all clean, no deadly ancient plague and no disease, which is always good to hear and also no nanites, which can be good but in the world of Stargate isn't. "Alright, we're all clean. No deadly plague, disease, no nanites, we're good." That was probably the best news he had all day.

Caiden delivered what he had to say and he stood back to let Doctor Kells do her job. There was no point in him watching over her, she knows what to do and he isn't a micromanaging kind of boss. Micromanaging doesn't help anyone especially not the CMO or the Doctors in his Department. Caiden saw the numbers of personnel dwindle which is always good as he rubbed his eyes and felt the presence of someone behind him, he looked back and saw no one but he did see something. He walked out of the infirmary and looked around and saw nothing. Feeling weird and not believing in coincidences he drew another sample of his blood and ran it himself. Could be due to a lack of sleep or they or at least he could've caught something.

Síobhan couldn't help but over hear Glavish given his full cent to which she could only guess was the cause of him, his partners in crime was trouble and been a pain in the arse or that was Síobhan's view. She had already finished the tests on there personal and was looking over the samples of the visitors. She wanted to make sure they were not in danger of them and no quarantine was been lifted till everyone got the clear.

Síobhan was working away as nurse Olin entered and gave a smile as she approached the computer to bring up the sample reports. Síobhan spoke,

" What's the Kiwifruit given out about ?" even as she spoke she continued in her work.

In a low mocking tone the nurse replayed " I don't think he was getting enough attention, so of he went and knocked the sample Lyle had," as she spoke her hand waved around.

As Síobhan spoke no sound flowed from her mouth, Nurse Olin quickly understood what words she had spoke which resulted that Olin couldn't help but laugh and then nodded her head in agreement with what Síobhan meant. With that the computer beeped with the results of the guests and Síobhan gave them a quick glance before speaking aloud " OK back to business, tell Dr West that are princess will need to be given some shots as she seems to be the one more at more risk. Síobhan stopped speaking as she watch Olin mood quickly changed jumping her head side to side and stepping nearer to the door. Her happy glow quickly turned to full blown fear. Síobhan clicked her fingers as she spoke hoping to regain her attention. " Olin, Olin what's wrong ,

It took Olin a second before finally speaking with fear running right through her voice in a light whisper " I heard something, like sound of.. she took a breath " Like feet of rats running a round . You must of heard them it was so loud."

Síobhan shuck her head before getting another nurse to take her to one of the beds to sit down. At first Síobhan was going to brush it aside, but she knew her and tricks were not in her nature. So Síobhan came up with the only idea she could and the first step was for her to knock off her music.

" Lieutenant Harris give us a hand will you over here, My Nurse said she head something and I didn't hear a thing for the life of me. It's not like her to make thing up, so just to be safe I'd like to give room a quick search and who knows it could be just a piece of equipment. " With that said Síobhan went looking in every spot she could.

"Alright, we're all clean. No deadly plague, disease, no nanites, we're good."


At the sound of the news Glavish exhaled.  Perhaps something would actually go right for the day.  At least as right as it could possibly go with Rodney McKay of all people arriving on Meropis.  Glavish dismissed the notions, as well as him seeing things and Kells hearing things.  She was likely stressed and his own symptoms were probably the result of... something not his fault.  Things would simply be much better once he was out of this place.  As he'd come to learn over the years, nothing good ever came of a hospital room these days.  "Well, I'll take that as my cue to relieve myself of your collective pres--"

"Olin, Olin what's wrong?"

"I heard something, like sound of..  Like feet of rats running a round . You must of heard them it was so loud."


Hearing this Glavish rolled his eyes.  He wasn't surprised, but he was pretty sure that their resident doctors had gotten the diagnosis wrong again.  Both he and Kells seemed to hint that they'd seen or heard something that hadn't been there.  One could chalk that up to coincidence, but a third person indicated one hell of a pattern which argued more than mere coincidence.

"Lieutenant Harris give us a hand will you over here, My Nurse said she head something and I didn't hear a thing for the life of me. It's not like her to make thing up, so just to be safe I'd like to give room a quick search and who knows it could be just a piece of equipment. "


Naturally, everyone's first inclination was to jump to the military for protection.  Part of Glavish wanted to ask if she was planning on having Lieutenant Harris search for a (rodent) mouse or a (computer) mouse.  Rolling his eyes, Glavish moved towards one of the consoles.  Yet, as he did so, he spoke out.  "Has anyone else seen or heard anything?" he asked.  He surveyed the room to see if anyone was willing to volunteer information.  "Did anyone see a mouse?"  As he reached the console, his hands attempted to tap into the climate controls for the infirmary.  He wasn't exactly looking to reset the A/C, but instead the atmospheric composition of the room.  "No abnormal gas concentrations."  The last statement had been a musing spoken more to himself than anyone.

"Doctor West," he said speaking to the Chief Medical officer.  "You stand by your diagnosis that we're all clear?" If there was something affecting them and teasing their senses, if it wasn't internal then it had to be environmental.  Glavish turned his eyes back to the screen.  "What's out of the ordinary?" he mused.  He then manipulated the screen to give an external topographical view of the city... and noticed the mass of clouds slowly moving in their direction.  Glavish exhaled slowly.  They were certainly out of the ordinary.

Something was obviously going on. Caiden saw shadows, a figure that wasn't really there and now a nurse heard noises that most likely also didn't happen. The blood work came back and everyone was negative for everything we know about but maybe something is happening that wasn't covered in the blood work and of course that would require a head CT scan.

Glavish would love this... is all Caiden was thinking about, he thinks we're no good and now we may be going crazy because of something this alien may have given to us obviously something targeting our brain. The Cerebrum is what controls hearing meanwhile seeing is controlled by the Cerebral Cortex which is the outer layer of the Cerebrum. So whatever it is, is obviously affecting the Cerebrum.

"Well, I'll take that as my cue to relieve myself of your collective pres--" Glavish said obviously stopping mid sentence. "Has anyone else seen or heard anything?"

"Well I guess it isn't just me, which is relieving. I'm not going crazy but that means we missed something or it just wasn't detectable, although all we did was a blood workup and not a full body scan." Caiden said.

"Doctor West, You stand by your diagnosis that we're all clear?" Caiden nodded.

"Well, like I said the blood work came back clean. We'll need to take a head CT scan of me or the nurse or anyone else here besides the aliens... "

"What's out of the ordinary?"

"Do you have any ideas? Hearing and seeing is controlled by the Cerebrum, obviously whatever is happening is targeting the Cerebrum, only." Caiden left it at that, let's see what the genius has to say...

Síobhan turned away from her area as the rest began to suspect something was going on, to Síobhan's point of view everything was normal and the nurse had more than likely heard a piece of equipment. Despite all that she had to keep an open mind. As Glavish and Dr West spoke she went over to the Nurse.

" You feeling any better?

The nurse responded in a calm relaxed tone, " I'm feeling a lot better, the sound reminded me of earlier today." Síobhan became puzzled with curiosity to her meaning and it showed in her face, but the answer would make Síobhan and the remaining nurse blush " This morning when you and the Scottish nurse were doing a Celtic dancing was it, it sounded like that now that I think of it, I watched from outside the room,"

Síobhan pointed towards the Scottish nurse, as she spoke she ran her finger back and forward between them as she spoke, " We both competed when we were young, it was a slow morning and we got talking and hey ho we got to showing off are steps" her face than looked straight ahead in hope everyone would move on.

With that she moved towards Glavish hoping he had an answer to what ever they were talking about.

Paisley was done with her own "checkup" of this strange being. She looked to Dr. Kells and opened her mouth.

She is hungry. She would like a round...breaded thing with a hole in the middle. That has white spread on it, and something called Jam. Perhaps that smelly stuff you Tau'ri with the strange accents like---was it tea? Paisley knew this because her peering glass had told her; spilled forth the images as if they were watching them on a TV screen.

She then looked to Glavish.

You. They look to you as a wise man, correct?! What is this round, breaded thing with a hole called in Earth language? She showed the man her mirror, and the image of a bagel, with cream cheese and jelly (jam), and tea with some fruit that Paisley had never seen before. They didn't have these foods on Heliv; for thier First Meal, they usually had the fruit of the Naga tree*, a pastry called Joorva*, and the milk of the cow-like creatures that roamed the plains of Heliv and Cebos.

Glavish thought about West's suggestion for a moment and slowly shook his head. "There may not be enough time for that," said Glavish. He recognized that the doctor likely had previous scans on file which could be used for comparison, but that wouldn't necessarily diagnose the problem or even hint at the cause. "And that's assuming the problem is solely internal. It could be the result of some external stimuli, not necessarily a pathogen...."

"Do you have any ideas? Hearing and seeing is controlled by the Cerebrum, obviously whatever is happening is targeting the Cerebrum, only."


Glavish turned his attention back to the computer screen. He began to run a few more scans from the console. It likely would have been just as easy to contact the control room and confer with them, but teamwork was still a budding concept with Glavish. His patience tended to wear too thin when he wanted immediate feedback. His brow furrowed as he viewed the data coming in, recognizing a particular energy pattern that wasn't exactly typical for the given circumstances.

"You. They look to you as a wise man, correct?! What is this round, breaded thing with a hole called in Earth language?
"

Glavish looked away from his screen and over at Paisley. His eyes then scanned to the room to see if anyone would actually field this question. The look on his face was that akin to the one that some adults tended to get when a child seemed to gravitate them and annoy them with pointless queries and relentless persistence. "A doughnut," Glavish pointed out. "It's called a doughnut." His eyes searched the room once more for assistance. It was as if these people were trained to be useless. "Try over there," he pointed in a particular direction. He thought he had smelled some when he entered earlier and gestured in that particular direction.

With his attention renewed on the earlier task, he accessed another device he had been working on remotely. After entering a 24-space alphanumeric code (he was clearly getting lazy), he accessed the device's peripheral scanners. His brow furrowed as the scan confirmed what the city's sensors were suggesting. "Temporal radiation?" he uttered aloud. "There are trace amounts of temporal radiation slowly building around the city." Glavish turned to look at the others. "That... that's rather unusual. Usually, temporal radiation only occurs in space. A by product of FTL emissions." Taking a deep breath, Glavish crossed his arms, one of his hands rising for his chin to rest upon between his thumb and index finger.

"Normally, the city would be shielded by such emissions, were it traveling," Glavish explained. "However, here on the planet... stationary... those particular shields aren't accessible. It would warrant more study, but I this is essentially a celestial event within the actual atmosphere. The ionosphere itself may have a hole in it... much like Earth's ozone which isn't properly filtering temporal radiation as it should.  And when this weather event passed through that region, it was super-charged by the radiation." Glavish smiled slightly and scoffed with a hint of being impressed. "Fascinating."

Glavish turned to survey the room to see if anyone understood. "You've got to be kidding me," he sighed. "There is essentially a pocket of energy moving through the area that is scraping at the fabrics of space and time." There still seemed to be no clear sign of understanding. "Think of a sheet of saran wrap. With enough pressure, you can warp the film of plastic.  To much pressure and you can put a hole in the wrap. Our reality is that film of plastic. The things that we've been hearing or seeing is the pressure warping our perception of this reality." Glavish sighed. "In theory.. too much concentrated radiation has the potential to rip the very fabric of our reality, which could be...." He paused as he considered the ramifications as well as whether or not they'd understand. "Put in layman's terms: catastrophic on a good day."

There seemed to be hardly a debate about what to do next. Reaching out to the comm panel, Glavish opened a channel to the Operations room. "Operations, this is Doctor Glavish. I need to speak with General Conway immediately. I trust he's aware of the storm moving to our location?" Mik waited patiently for a response, and his mind was already theorizing on the cause as well as some solutions.

Caiden sat and thought about it, knowing he is infected himself by whatever is causing the hallucinations or whatever the hell was happening to him and the nurse, apparently. "So far, Doctor, all that happened was an hallucination. Hallucinations usually aren't life threatening, at least not immediately life threatening..."

Caiden continued his thinking to himself and heard the alien ask Glavish what the name was for a doughnut... It doesn't take a wise man to know that, Caiden thought to himself as he continued to sit and not think about the hallucination or what may be happening to his brain.

"Temporal radiation?" Glavish said as Caiden turned not really sure what temporal radiation was but he did know temporal is time, mostly used for time travel although to his knowledge time travel isn't yet possible unless you walk through a stargate when a solar flare is passing by.

"If you say so, Doctor. Although it isn't fun hallucinating. It is incredibly unnerving." Caiden said, and it definitely was.

Síobhan moved towards Paisley listening to the conversion which she still did not fully understanding what he was talking about. The only thing she really understood was something with time. She had caught the basic what he was on about, that changed when he toned it down to lay man terms to which just totally confused her and made her almost just give up on the conversion. Her own personal view was this was just a problem in the head and caused by the stress of the situation. With that said she couldn't disprove it so decided to look at bit further in to it.

[b" Dr West could be right, this could be are only chance to understand a event like this, if we monitor the two of you, next time one of these time things happen it may we may be able to give us a better in sight to the effects on the human body and to control it. As it has to have an effect on the body and mind. "[/b]

As Síobhan spoke she approached a nurse,

" Please get are guest something light to eat, we can hold off on the injections she needs for now ."

With that said she took a bottle of water out of the hatch in the wall and handed it to Paisley. Síobhan spoke to Paisley like a headmaster talking to a first class student.

" Here's some water as for a Doughnut, this is a medical facility and not Dunken Doughnuts. You can have the standard food like everyone else. Plus are food is designed for the body needs."

Hanyuu watched the nervous group of people. She was still groggy which she presumed had something to do with how long she had slept for. Her body ached and felt stiff. Her body was almost screaming at her to get up and provide it with sustenance. A million and one questions raced through her mind and this group seemed wholely uninterested in her. As far as Hanyuu was aware, the one known as Glavish was a wannabee scientist (evident from his primitive understanding of both time and FTL), West a doctor (or possibly a biologist), Siobhan a psychologist and Paisley the patient that believes herself to be a princess (presumably of an imaginary kingdom).

Hanyuu observed a bottle of water being handed to Paisley and food mentioned. Tentatively Hanyuu got herself out of bed and gingerly made her way to fridge. Downing half the bottle Hanyuu, with rather more vigor, grabbed herself a protein bar and dug in before moving back to Siobhan, who in Hanyuu's eyes was the only one doing anything remotely useful, and asked of her; "What's the date?"

Computers were bleeping furiously all over the control room and staff were doing their best to rush back and forth despite the effects of the temporal radiation already kicking in. The city was taking damage, albeit minor damage, but nonetheless it was keeping the team busy as the hurricane was now upon them in full force. Conway scanned the radar and noted that the eye of the storm was still some way off, he worried about how strong things could get before they got made it through. McKay was busy doing... something, on one of the terminals and wasn't responding to Conway, in fact nobody was. He felt for a moment like he was trapped in a perfect bubble of peace as he watched the room go about their tasks in an organized and efficient way.

The stillness was interrupted by his ear-piece sounding, it was Dr. Glavish,
"Operations, this is Doctor Glavish. I need to speak with General Conway immediately. I trust he's aware of the storm moving to our location?"
the voice crackled with the interference, Conway tapped his ear to open the channel.
"Glavish, this is Conway. We've been monitoring the storm, it's all but upon us now and there are a few hiccups. Any chance you and some of the good Doctors could get up here? I'm sure confident you and McKay can work together to... Mitigate, some of the effects of this radiation." He cleared the channel awaiting a reply. General Conway felt oddly calm despite the hectic atmosphere around him, he took a moment of reflection to observe how the staff were interacting with one another; sharing duties, contributing ideas and generally being the best they could be. The moment was spoiled by his ear buzzing with a communication. It was Doctor Glavish in the infirmary,
"Operations, this is Doctor Glavish. I need to speak with General Conway immediately. I trust he's aware of the storm moving to our location?"

"Glavish, this is Conway." The General replied, "We've been monitoring the storm, it's all but upon us now and there are a few hiccups. Any chance you and some of the good Doctors could get up here? I'm sure confident you and McKay can work together to... Mitigate, some of the effects of this radiation."
Jason Conway paused for a moment...
"That... That was weird." He said out loud to himself, cursing the temporal radiation under his breath.

Satisifed that Hanyuu wasn't an evil killer alien, Paisley lowered the hand that was on her phaser. She wouldn't need it. She heard the Irish doctors' voice.

Here's some water as for a Doughnut, this is a medical facility and not Dunken Doughnuts. You can have the standard food like everyone else. Plus are food is designed for the body needs. Paisley nodded, and handed Hanyuu the bottle of water. She couldn't help but smell it first; these Tau'ri had odd foods. They might do the Tau'ri good, but Paisley hadn't ever seen foods like THESE in her 200-odd years. She trusted the doctors, though, and the other aliens, so if Kells said it was safe, it was so.

I congizate what you speak of, Dr. Kells. I apologize. She replied, in her robotic monotone. She turned to Hanyuu and spoke in Helivan.

Tapera ara wawa.* She held the bottle to Hanyuu, who took it suspiciously. Pleased, Paisley headed back for her own bed in the infirmary, unaware of the tenseness of the humans about her. A galatic storm was childs' play to the Princess, a mere inconvience but nothing more. Hanyuu drank the water, and then spoke.

What's the date? Paisley pointed to the whiteboard above her head, where every morning, one of the nurses or aides would write her name, date, and a note, as if she were a wee Helivan or else her Operating Organ were broken. She just was having difficulty fitting in, and she trusted very few people. Her attack had left her more shaken than she was willing to admit, but no one had had the time to work with her, save Harrison, who did his best.

Síobhan watched as the guest finally awoke and began to pay attention to the world around her. From the look she seemed to be slowly gripping back to body, she could only grasp it was do to a problem with the pod she was in and with luck she'd have a full recovery. But first there was Paisley.

"I congizate what you speak of, Dr. Kells. I apologize
