Episode 7- Cause & Effect - Planetside (SM-3)

Almost as soon as they white life engulfed them it dispersed around them and they were on the planet. "alrighty then." He said lowly before producing an Ancient Life Signs Detector. "Lets keep it quiet and slow, we don't want to spook the locals." He said as he scanned. He got a fix on the position of the lab as well as what seemed to be a few slowly moving sparsely placed pairs of life signs, patrols or groups of hunters tourists, what have you, best to avoid those he thought to himself. "The lab is in the foot of that hill up there." He pointed towards the moderate hill that rose probably a few hundred meters from the flatter ground around and was probably about half a mile to a mile away. "there seem to be some people around, small groups moving slowly and spread out, I'll keep an eye on them as we move. So lets go to it." He then waited for them all to get set before the started moving off at a decent walking pace, their primary protection against people like these, advanced and most certainly dangerous was stealth, so he was going to focus on that.

They reached a small rise in the ground before they came up to the embankment above a roughly paved road. He stopped them just behind the crest and checked the LSD. No one was near enough to worry about. "That road is a little bit of a problem, means that if it gets to day time we might have to camp it out in the Forrest, we've probably got 6 or so hours before that happens, we should be at the lab well before then, our first check in is scheduled for around the same time. Stevens Treaty I want you two to cover one direction each over the road. I'll take Allanah Across first then I'll take over watching you Direction Stevens and you'll Come across, then you'll take over for Sergeant Treaty he'll come across and we'll all be good. Hopefully." He nodded and waited for them to set up, one couldn't be to careful when crossing an alien road could they?

Alannah couldn't help but feel like a little girl again, the excitement and adventure that anyone of her own people would be jealous about. It was the second time she had beamed through the light and now both times she felt like screaming just from the excitement. But she didn't. These Tau'ri did things her people had never even taught about. Sometimes she couldn't help but wonder why they let her people work with there SG teams, was it pity or to keep them from causing trouble like others they met and than there was the view that it was because her people saw things different. Alannah preferred the last view. She couldn't help but wonder why they hadn't beamed them in the light nearer to the lab or in it.


She listened carefully as Ethan spoke.
" alrighty then. Lets keep it quiet and slow, we don't want to spook the locals. The lab is in the foot of that hill up there. there seem to be some people around, small groups moving slowly and spread out, I'll keep an eye on them as we move. So lets go to it." 


She had a few off world missions from the Tau'ri home world but all were to do with training and getting them use to the change in there own personal environment. This was her first official mission and she could only dream what the leaders at home would be like when they read her report. In the distance she noticed the life Ethan was on about, people going around there own life unaware of them and in away that excited plus scared her. But Alannah kept her cool.
Alannah kept in step as they move with only once nearly going straight on her face. Finally they reached a paved road and when Ethan spoke about his plan Alannah was left confused but she was sure he knew what he was doing so went with it.

"It's bad enough to be going through that damn stargate, but being beamed up and down, I will never get used to that." Ryan said as he regained his composure. He was a Special Forces Soldier, not a damn Astronaut or Chair Force... airman... when he was brought into the program he thought he was being punk'd but when he finally went off-world and went against aliens like the Jaffa and Goa'uld then against the soldiers of the Ori, he finally believed it, not like he had a choice.

He isn't exactly a thick skulled soldier, he just doesn't like his whole body being dematerialized and sent along somewhere and then rematerialized somewhere across the galaxy, or in this case, universe. It doesn't sound that unreasonable but then again if he didn't go through the stargate then he wouldn't be here in the SGC and if he didn't get beamed up and down then he could've died on a number of occasions or couldn't participate in certain missions.

He always sought out action and adventure but going around the planet was enough for him, going across the universe, now that is a whole different ball game but he is up for the challenge, any challenge really.

Ryan listened to the Captain, who wasn't a direct combat warrior but Ryan wouldn't hold that against him, most SG team members and leaders weren't combat officers but they definitely got their experience in the field, whether they liked it or not. As long as this Captain was up for a fight and wouldn't back down from a challenge, he wouldn't hear any complaints from Ryan.

Ryan didn't exactly like sneaking up on an advanced civilization, in case they got caught and they're carrying weapons, it won't exactly look like they're friendly explorers but other SG teams have got out of even stickier situations and the Sun Tzu was nearby in case they needed help or an immediate extraction. But then there was that beaming thing... Ryan stuffed that thought away as he hoped it wouldn't come to that but then again he knew that in order to leave this planet, he'd have to get beamed up again.

Ryan didn't really hear his name in there he heard, Sergeant but not exactly what'd he'd be doing. "Sorry, sir. What did you want me to do?" He asked as he looked at the Captain for clarification.

Sironan Stellar Command Head Quarters
Underground A few Kilometers from the Ancient Outpost

He'd spent the last few weeks on their new colony it had been hard work but they had managed to get it going and with their other two ships running personnel and supplies they had landed the Siron, their flagship back in it underground hanger, it wasn't for security purposes most every Sironan knew about their ships and enough had knowledge of their new Colony which in a few more weeks would be properly unveiled, the only thing they had discovered which had caused alarm was a device once seen in the computer systems of the Precursor outpost, An Astral Portal, they had yet to find evidence of one on their world but the Precursor logs showed they should have one but that it had been hidden to close this world off, they had exhausted many resources trying to find it in the previous few weeks but failed.

There was a knock on his door. "Enter." He said standing up wearing the usual Blue digital Camouflage of the Sironan Security Forces and the equally standard grey undershirt. "I'm Sorry to disturb you Commander." He took in a deep breath before responding to the younger man. "What is it Overseer?" He replied taking the matching blue camouflage jacket off the back of his desk chair and stealing a glance out of his window to the Siron before returning his gaze to the Overseer. "We have a situation sir." There was a brief pause. "Go on." He said as he lead them out of his quarters and down the hall towards the main control room.

"Sir approximately ten minutes ago the precursor installation displayed some sort of message, we believe it was an automated response to something or someone entering our solar system, none of our systems detected anything not until 5 minutes ago, one of our surveillance satellites has picked up some people sir, on it''s infra red scanners, they seem to have appeared, as in not there and then they were there. the system flagged an error but we ran diagnostics it seems to be working correctly and the other satellites which also cover the zone around the installation showed the same readings." They stepped up into the Command Centre. "Show it to me." He watched a split screen from three feeds that showed slightly different angles of the people appears but they all matched up. "The chances of three satellites showing that and it being a common malfunction are almost zero" He watched a time sped up view of the group of four beings moving. "They appear to be headed for the precursor outpost." He rested his hands on the metal table in the middle of the room which held a display of SM-3's Progress. "It appears that way sir." He stood up and adjusted his uniform. "Capture them, if they resist you know the rules, but I would prefer them to be alive is that clear?" He said to the room as a whole. "have them brought to the topside facilities, no need to confirm our presence down here if we don't have to. Send it up the channels and distribute weapons, this could be a prelude to an invasion. Get me a line to the Director of Planetary Security."

Izzy lugged the medical supplies, staring daggers at the three men. She would NOT ask one of THEM to take it, though. She was tough, damn it, and she would make it! They weren't THAT heavy, but she was PMSing, so if one of these Marines ran his mouth, he was gonna get an earful. Or something else. God, she was going to be happy when this was all over. At least Collins had a bit of brains; a better leader than some of the options on Meropis.

Sir...with due respect...once there, perhaps Tallulah and I should kind of...speak first. No offense, but a bunch of big men with guns isn't exactly the best way to win hearts and minds. Her Georgia charm just might work, though. And understood; cover your six until I am over. [/color]

The trip to the road had been mostly quiet except for Fist Sergeant Sweeney's comment about the asgard transporters, he would have thought someone like him would have been used to it, He thought nothing of it, perhaps just frustration from being stuck in the ship for three weeks, it had gotten to him a little then again that could also have been the fact he wasn't at the SGC anymore. He definatly didn't like what came through his radio as they had begun to move out. 

"SM-3 this is Riley come in..." He kept the group moving as he responded. "SM-3 Here sir." Then the bad news really started. "We've an SOS from Meropis. Now I'm not about to abandon you on a planet with no visible Stargate so we'll hang fire here until you say otherwise. But we'll be out of comms reach for a few hours while we try to get a better sit-rep on whats happening back home. If we have to go, we'll grab you first."
  He could kill the mission being stuck most of a galaxy away from base, a base that was in distress, but they couldn't get back via hyper drive for maybe two and a half weeks and that could damage the hyperdrive. "Yes sir, I'll see if we can find this planets stargate through the Ancient outpost, if it's in a secluded area and the DHD is near we could send help." He waited for Colonel Riley's reply. "Agreed. Scheduled check in as normal Sun Tzu out."
Now they were stuck across the galaxy from Meropis and it probably could use their help. "SM-3 Acknowleges, Out." Great... "Alright, when we get into the outpost let's focus on finding this planets stargate, Meropis could need our's and the Sun Tzu's help." 

They soon arrived at the road and he laid out his plan. He looked back at Sergeant Sweeney as he asked a question. "Sorry, sir. What did you want me to do?"
He pointed down one direction of the road. "Sergeant you watch that way," He looked over at Petty officer Stevens. "Sir...with due respect...once there, perhaps Tallulah and I should kind of...speak first. No offense, but a bunch of big men with guns isn't exactly the best way to win hearts and minds.
" He shook his head. "If it comes to that maybe, but we are trying to avoid them for now, we have no idea how they will react to meeting people from another planet, let alone another Galaxy, avoiding the indigenous people of this planet with their similar levels of technology, is going to be the best way to stay alive and complete our mission. We ready to cross the road boys and girls?" He said trying to lighten up the mood, it was just another day walking around a forest with a gun.

AS they took up their positions he grabbed ones of the straps on Alannah's vest. "Don't worry Just incase I need to save our lives." He said with a wry smile. Hopefully they weren't going to saving or taking lives on this planet. He nodded to the others before Starting the cross with Alannah. Once up the other embankment he faced Izzy's Direction and aimed down the road before waving her across. Once she was across and covering Sweeney he waved the army First Sergeant across. Once they were all up the embankment he checked the life signs detector, seemed to be a few more patrols, but they had moved a bit, now he was getting worried, maybe these people had already found the Ancient outpost and were using it for themselves or worse, for the Etruscans.

Alannah smiled as he fixed her vest, she had full faith the team and getting the mission done. She was surprised now much the jungle reminded her of a area back on home called the The Sky Forest, she use to love going there when she was young and still had photographs of the area. By the time the Gou'ld came they ripped the area clean of any valued material and by the time SG teams came to help they were to late for colour pictures.

As ordered Alannah crossed the road only happy to listen and as she reached the opposite side of the road while waiting for commands. She spoke soft,

" We had a place like this on my home world, "

Izzy fell in behind Allanah the alien. Even though Collins had rejected her idea, she DID understand that there was a mission to uphold and she would make sure her part in it was done to the best of her ability. She waited for the CO to lead them forward, and, once again, they were on the move.

We had a place like this on my home world... Izzy looked to Alannah and shrugged.

Were they friendly?

They Crossed the road quietly and efficently, for a team of half composed of first offworld missioners it was good start and hopefully a good sign. "We had a place like this on my home world." Alannah said. He smiled a little. "A lot of worlds look like this or similar seems the Ancients had a thing for green forests, though I have to say it is better than a desert or an ice field." Those two usually never went well, though experience told him deserts were preferable, then again this wasn't his old team and now he was properly in charge it was different to being acting CO.

He lead them further up the hill towards the Ancient laboratory, something didn't really feel right, he still wasn't sure what, probably nerves. "Alright, single file, lets go." He ordered as they began to move.

20 minutes later they were moving up through a small gully following the easier root, he didn't fancy taking the historian up a cliff. 

As they continued he heard a small crack or brushing sound and signaled for them to crouch and ready weapons. All to soon however the team was faced with a flurry of probably two dozen flashlights and yelling in what seems close to Latin/Ancient. They didn't fire so he waited hoping Sergeant Sweeny would do the same. "We are lowing out weapons." He turned to the others. "Let's not get executed hey?" He said to his team before undoing the clip that attached his P90 to his vest by a lanyard. 

As they placed their weapons on the ground the black shadowy figures approached and two grabbed each person however, Both Sweeny and Collins were struck with A rifle butt to the chest and one to the head respectivly, the last thing he saw was a big black boot trodding in front of his vision.

He'd had the prisoners for just over an hour and his Interrogators had got nothing, well nothing of much value, Three of them were giving something somewhat familiar Name's Rank's and Service Numbers and had stuck to that throughout their questioning, the two men, if they were men had volunteered to questioned over the women it was admirable he felt but futile they all had been interrogated, however one of them had even had to restrained when the first round of questions had begun, that was who he was going to see personally, both for that and the fact that one was in possession of precursor technology.

He nodded to the guard at the door to one of the interrogation rooms and walked in tapping the precursor device in his hand, they had seen this device before but it had done nothing apparently when it was taken off this particular person it was displaying something. He turned to the guard inside the room. "Leave." The guard straightened before leaving the room and closing the door behind him. "Ethan Collins, Captain, United States Air Force " He said to the man cuffed to the metal chair before him. "It seems you have some training with regard to interrogation, that would seem to suggest you are a spy." The man shook his head. "I will uncover what this United States is, I can guess at the Air Force, I assume it related to atmospheric flying craft" Building a background to the man's lies or truths would be both helpful in general and in regards to getting information. The prisoner nodded to his statement "But first, what were you doing is possession of precursor technology."

"I was issued it." The Prisoner started. "It is a precursor device, no one is issued them." The prisoner shook his head slowly. "Look, I'm not lying to you, but you seem like the man in charge, I know what senior officers look and act like." The prisoner took in a sharp breath. "I was issued that device for this mission, and the way you speak of these precursors I've got a pretty good idea of who you are talking about, people like you and me, lived on lots of planets throughout the stars. Except they have one major difference they're gone now and they were way smarter than you or me. My people call them the Ancients, but Precursors is just the same really. Wouldn't happen to have a big circular device on this planet, step through it, go to different planets that sort of thing." The Commander stared the man down, only a very very few knew of the Astral Portal. "What do you know of the Astral Portal?" 

"That depends, you going to stop interrogating my team?"  The two men sized each other up for a few quiet moments. "We're not invaders, not in that sense, were explorers from another planet  among the stars, we mostly come in peace, but this planet, doesn't have a working Stargate, it's what we call the Astral Portal, It's probably been taken away or buried, we came via a space ship, to check out the Precursor structure, it could contain information key to my peoples survival against an enemy that is almost unimaginably evil and different from you and I." The Sironan Commander Looked down then back up.

"You speak of the enemy of the Precursors, only one of their agents or a precursor could know of them, and the precurors left us a long time ago, after sealing us off from their enemy. How do you work this device?" He asked holding the Precursor device up for the prisoner to clearly see. "It's in my blood so to speak, look some of the precursors escaped to my planet, and well integrated into the local population of humans, that's us, I'm descended from one of them, I can use their technology because of that, and I suspect you know some if not all of that or wouldn't have brought it with you or asked about it." The Commander turned. "We suspected when we found you and while you were unconscious after we captured you we took some of your blood, you are different in an almost untraceable way from the other three.." Marton then turned back to his prisoner. "We confirmed your relation to them several minutes ago, from a sample we have. It is why I am here and not my men and women. I am inclined to believe your story, in so far that you are able to use their technology and that you related to them, your intentions however I cannot know. Where are you from and why are you hear?" He asked in a measured tone.

"I Doubt you will believe, me but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. I'm From a Planet called Earth, it's in another Galaxy, another big group of stars far away, currently I've been living and working out of the Ancient's City in this galaxt called Meropis." The prisoner stopped when the Sector Commander face changed into a mixture of confusion and anger. "I'm part of a group of people who went from my planet to Meropis, now we explore this galaxy to see what we can find for all kinds of purposes, that includes technology and resources for all kinds of things, space faring vessels, weapons and medicines even. And also to meet people to study other cultures and if possible maintain good relations with them, for a variety of reasons the prime ones being to help in our fight against the enemy of the Ancients in this galaxy. We came to your planet to search through the Precursor lab to help us in that effort..." The prisoner stopped when the Commander waved his hand. "A Tall tale. to be sure. You will help us find and work our Astral Portal and Then I may reconsider your story." He watched as the prisoner lowered his head. "I'm not a scientist, I don't know how to locate your damned Astral Portal, unless the information of it's location is in the precursor lab data somewhere, I can't help you!" The prisoner yelled. "That, I can help you with. GUARD!" A Guard came in. "release him from the chair and restrain him to yourself, We're going to get the information we need from the Precursor laboratory with his help, Bring the red headed female with us." "Yes Sir." and with that the Prisoner was secured to the guard and lead away.

((OOC: Sort of a joint post with Collins. Also seems the other two characters haven't been active in quite a while will attempt to finish this mainly with Collins and Izzy))

In a Truck en route to Ancient Lab
K3X-237 "Sirona"

It had been good to ever so briefly see his team alive, hopefully he was doing the right thing for them, trading knowledge for their safety, he'd trade his own life for theirs if he had too, not that he was particularly fond of dying he just wanted to make sure they made it back. After being lead to surface with Stevens in almost silence they'd been released from their chaperones and had their hands cuffed again which had then been secured to the floor of the truck with a heavy duty looking strap. as their guards waited just outside the truck for the rest of the convoy he could probably safely assume was getting together he lean over to Izzy.

"How are you and the others, I haven't been able to see them since they first took us for 'questioning'." He said lowly. He could feel and had seen in partial reflections on glass and shiny metal surfaces on his way up to the truck he wasn't in the best of conditions. Once the corpsman had a chance to respond soon the truck started the telltale vibrations and sounds of it and others starting was followed by a four guards jumping into the back of the truck to make sure they couldn't get away, not that breaking the strap that tied them to the truck was going to be easy.

Sitting in silence for the ride to the lab they eventually stopped and were secured to a guard each via a new set of restraints while their cuffs remained in place. A few minutes past as they were lead up to the lab.

Getting into lab he looked around from everything he'd seen personally, on video and read this was it. The Sironan Commander came over and removed his restraints. "Find the location of the astral portal." Rubbing his wrists he looked over at his redheaded petty officer. "You don't want to witness the alternative." The commander said coldly as he walked over to Izzy his hand on his sidearm. Ethan knew what he was suggesting, he'd probably have once chance at most but even he couldn't bear to watch a beating of one of those under his command. "I'll need help... I'm not exactly an expert in their language." The commander waved his hand at someone who looked a little out of place, still wearing a military uniform of the others, it was only really different due to a lack of weaponry, what could be called glasses and a demeanor far more like the scientists of the SGC. 

"I'm an expert of their language." the young woman said. Collins nodded at her then looked to the Commander and Stevens, he knew the game. Approaching one of the consoles he places his hands on it and it went from a dull glow to a brighter one and a screen that had been dormant activated. He turned most of the room with three notable exceptions, the Commander, the scientist next to him and the Petty Officer seemed completely amazed. "Happens all the time..." He said jokingly. He tried thinking of something but to no use, obviously it had only needed initialization, as he had learned back at the SGC. "It's doesn't use thought... it just needed to be initialized." The researched who had come over tried to type something into the console but nothing happened. "Could still want someone with the gene to use it, it's a research outpost you know. Just tell me which ones to press to search for your portal." He said looking at the scientist. 

"These ones." she said before indicating a series of ancient letters some he could read others he couldn't remember off the top of his head. the symbols he pressed seemed to make the console jump through the ancient equivalent of screens. "Guess we weren't in the search area." he said uneasily. He turned to the Commander who was impatiently waiting standing next to Stevens. "I need the book from the right hand top pocket of the vest I was wearing. It's got instructions on how to work these kinds of devices..." The commander nodded to a guard before his vest minus weapons was tossed onto the ground in front of him. 

Collins' then retrieved the small notebook from said pocket before opening it and quickly scanning through a few pages before finding what he needed. He then pressed a series of command and a screen showing a list of all entries into the console, hopefully one of them would contain the location of their Stargate. Pressing the buttons that made the console it search for the location of the Stargate came up with only one entry and from what he could read it was cryptic directions to find it's location. The researcher next to him studied the text. "Now, now captain does it contain the location of our Astral Portal?" he looked back at the text then to Izzy. "Not exactly..."

The commander shook his head. "You test my patience." he then turned and motioned to one of the guards next to izzy who then roughly grabbed the woman's head and raised a fist. " I don't know you son of a bitch, IT's in Ancient, and at best it's giving cryptic directions to it's location." The Sironan Commander stared him down for a few moments. "So be it." He motioned again and Izzy was given a swift fist to the guy. Almost instinctively he stepped aggressively toward the commander only to be met with the raised of weapons. "You impossible bastard." Ethan stopped and stared at the man, they two of them locked in a duel of wills silently. "You would do the same if your planet was in jeopardy." Collins breathed in deeply. and looked back at the researched still studying the text, hoping they would be able to understand the instructions. "I don't have the history of your planet to work out what it means..." He looked at Izzy apologetically, it seemed he was going to get her beaten or killed. 

The Commander then readied his sidearm and leveled it at his team members head. "Don't do it." He said through gritted teeth at the man ready to kill his Corpsman. There was then a click of a hammer being readied. "Last chance Captain." As they looked at each other the researcher finally said something. "S-sir... I think I know where it is."  Ethan didn't take his eyes off the weapon almost against Stevens' head. "Where is it?"  The researcher took a moment to respond. "It should be in the ruins we found near out polar test range" With that the Commander lowered his weapon. Ethan could finally breath again. "Have it brought to our base. set it up in silo 12A." Soon enough they were back at the Sironan base and in a Cell him and Izzy alone. 

"I'm sorry, about what happened..." He started in the cold silence of their cell.
