Maggie's Christmas had begun not like most people's. She had gated home to Paris for the weekend; mostly, she had been TOLD to go home for a bit. The holiday had been a good excuse to flee to Mere and her Chanel-perfumed cloud of Glaoise smoke and distinctly Parisian (read: shabby-chic) flat. Her stepfather was there, of course, but that couldn't be helped. She'd arrived at De Gaulle on a civillian flight-she could've taken a military one, but she preferred the luxury of air liners. She'd flown business-not first class, as she preferred-she DID need to start saving money if she were going to have a baby...or not. That procedure was also expensive. She and...Mik hadn't set anything in stone, agreeing to not make a move until they'd had a proper chance to process it. She might need forever.
Padding through De Gaulle airport in her leggings, furry boots, and warm coat, she was SOO glad to be out of flight suits, ugly uniforms, and regulation hairstyles. She wore tight pants, but not her usual-she'd already gained three pounds from the little parasite that currently took up the space in her stomach that wine normally took. She was also eating. Not WELL, but she was eating. Mostly because people actually WATCHED until she did, but whatever. She caught a cab to her mothers.
Sabine had recognized her daughter's weight gain. It was GOOD, she'd said, to see her filling out. Maggie hadn't been able to keep a secret-she'd told her mother about the baby straight away-before even a proper hello. And, as a mother should, she held her daughter while she cried. Then, over a tray of snacks, a glass of wine (for Mere) and some tea (for Maggie), they made a plan.
If Maggie and Mik chose to keep thier baby, Sabine suggested that Maggie take the Navy's offer of resgination, and settle in Paris with her and Maggie's stepfather. Maggie's mother believed that Maggie was currently doing Desert Warfare Training in the States. Maggie explained that Mik was a government scientist, American, and that she didn't know much about him other than he was a researcher and good in bed. Finally, it was time for dinner, and Maggie ate enough to please her mother, and then went to bed. She felt better than she had in ages, and her mission tomorrow would be to track down Mike and tell him about her new life.
Outfit, Mere's apartment.
