Checking Up?!

Izzy found herself smiling again. She hoped she didn't look like a total idiot.

I have seen a Jalapenos Cheese Spread almost yield a Battalion Level NJP once. That ruckus that that little packet of amazingly awesome goodness caused was almost caused a LAV to drive through the CoC. She nodded. That must have been something else!

That sounds like something one of my brothers would've pulled. Did you get in a lot of trouble?! She bit her lip a little-she hoped not!

She made a face when Ryan confirmed that his parents-well, mother-did the same as hers did.

That is actually pretty funny. I think secretly my dad wants to do the same thing, though I don’t know if he would ever admit it, and mom, well since I turned 18 she had been wondering when I am going to get married and give her Grand babies. Heck, my Sister has been pressuring me to give her nieces and nephews! Izzy had to laugh at that; she was kind of hoping that Allen and Dina would have kids before she did...Allen would be a good father, and she needed to learn! Ryan continued on his tale.

But to be honest and to answer your question I don’t know. I mean, up until I found out about the Stargate Program, I was looking to start to settle down, granted, being in CI means I deploy a lot, but still,I was thinking of maybe doing my 20 and retire. But since I am now a part of this...I can’t even imagine trying to go back to the regular Marine Corps. We are on another planet, in another galaxy! Izzy nodded, but when he winced, she moved forward slightly, ready to spring into action if he needed her. He seemed OK, though, so she settled back.

I know what you mean!! How do we go back to reality when we've seen all the things we have...been through the Gate and seen aliens?! I just...I can't imagine going back to Georgia and just being normal again. Not that she was normal before, but...

I don’t know. I would like to find someone that I could at least talk to about my experiences. I always hated when mom or dad asked me what I was up to I had to be vague or tell them classified. She shrugged lightly.

I told my parents I was being deployed for deep-sea training. My mom believed it, but my dad didn't, of course. But yes. I hate lying to them, but what I am going to do?However, I wouldn't say no if I were to do it again! This is...amazing.

She smiled. She was glad she'd gotten this assignment-it beat the pants off Coronado any day of the week.

I was watching the radar as we had a sandstorm coming in and I heard revving outside. I made a comment that it sound like it was getting closer, but the WO told I was hearing things. Next thing we knew there was shouting and the sound of a LAV Shifting into gear. By the time I got outside, one of my…friends…was explaining to the CO why his LAV was a few inches from the CoC. I didn’t get to hear what was send but somehow he was able to weasel his way out of an NJP. I remember asking him later that day about why they gotten so close and he had commented that Owens had stolen his Jalapenos cheese spread and that he had had to get it back, thus leaving the LAV to drive itself. No one got hurt or anything.” Ryan said with a chuckle. HE knew how dangerous that was, but no one had been hurt. He couldn’t count how many close called he had had over his time in the Corps.

I told my parents…This is...amazing. Ryan nodded. “Don’t I know it! I wouldn’t do this again in a heartbeat! I mean, how could I back know that I have traveled to other worlds, bleed on them, and then look people back home with a straight face saying I was deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq?” He shook his head. “I will try to stay on as long as possible,” He said with a smile, “besides, someone has to keep you employed, and busy.” He said with a wink and an almost unperceptive look of attraction, before motioning towards his wound.

Izzy could picture the scene as Ryan described it...a big Marine in a giant tank, hopping out to go fist fight another for nacho cheese, while Ryan feared an attack from God knew what. They were never as innocent as they CLAIMED, but at least no one got in trouble.

Good! I couldn't imagine being the HM on call to hear THAT story. Not that she hadn't heard a few doozies in her few short years in, but still. She believed it was only Marines that behaved like ten-year-old boys over food. More importantly, I am glad no one got into trouble and that the LAV was able to stop in time...they're big and not easy to control, which you well know, and can cause serious injuries. She guessed that what she was TRYING to say was that she was glad that RYAN hadn't been hurt.

She finished her sandwich and sipped her tea as Ryan agreed with her about Meropis.

Exactly! I don't get to tell anyone that I've revived an Alien, or seen the after affects of radiation...no one would believe it anyway! And as for that last part...well, don't make a HABIT of it... She babbled on. Somewhere, she could HEAR her brothers laughing at her. Unless, you know, you want to...

Ryan couldn’t help but smile, seeing how concerned she was about people. “All in it was a no-harm-no-foul kind of day, and everyone walked away mostly happy.” He said with a Chuckle.

Ryan watched as she turned red, and Ryan couldn’t help but feel like a million bucks, maybe he would find that someone that he could truly be himself and talk with. Exactly! I don't get to tell anyone that I've revived an Alien…well, don't make a HABIT of it... Unless, you know, you want to... Ryan smiled. “I make no promises,” Ryan said with a playful wink, “but seeing as how I am sure to be on light duty for a few weeks, I am sure I will find some extra time on my hands, and as it happens, I have a Hard Drive full of movies that I haven’t watched yet, I would be honored to have some company.” It was Ryan’s turn to blush.

Izzy was kind of hoping that their lunch could extend on a little bit more, but she almost finished.

All in it was a no-harm-no-foul kind of day, and everyone walked away mostly happy.

She smiled again.

Well, there ya go. ANother day in the sandbox, I guess! She was on a roll now! It was good, she supposed, that Ryan could joke about his job.

I make no promises..but seeing as how I am sure to be on light duty for a few weeks, I am sure I will find some extra time on my hands, and as it happens, I have a Hard Drive full of movies that I haven’t watched yet, I would be honored to have some company.

SHe smiled.

Well, there ya go. ANother day in the sandbox, I guess! Ryan nodded. “Yup, it was in Saudi, so not to crazy. I was only a Marine equivalent of an AG at the time.” Ryan said with a smile.

I would like that. Ryan couldn’t help but grin, and he grinned wide. Keep it cool Ryan you can do this, don’t blow it. He thought to himself. “Great!” He said as he slowly got up, putting weight on his right side. He arm gave out and plumped to the ground and winced. “Ok, left side only.” He said with light chuckle and slowly put weight on his left side, before slowly moving to a standing position. “Well, shall we?” He said with a wink and smile.

Izzy mushed up the plastic wrapper from her sandwich in the palm of her hand. Then, she put it in her guitar case to throw out later. They needed more trash cans. She should tell Dr. West or something. She let Ryan finish. 

Yup, it was in Saudi, so not to crazy. I was only a Marine equivalent of an AG at the time. She nodded. 

Well. I am glad, anyway. And she was, because she wouldn't otherwise be here having this conversation after playing some lovely music! She stood up to finish packing her things, and then winced a little as Ryan attempted to do the same. 

Great!..Ok, left side only. Well, shall we? She nodded. 

Just so long as you don't make me have to repair your arm AGAIN today. She let him lead her out of the hallway.
