Episode Six - The Eye of the Storm

"Glavish this is Conway come in..." The General repeated himself, "Glavish come in." There was nothing but static crackling back through the earpiece. Conway cursed out loud and slammed his fist onto the worktop.
"Sir, it's possible the temporal radiation is having an effect on our comms system as well," one of the gate room technicians piped up.
"Great. Alright, I'm going to find him, McKay!" He turned to their guest from the Atlantis expedition, "Keep working on a way to counter-act this stuff if you can, I know you want to do your research but, things are getting out of hand. I'm going to bring you Glavish..." he paused, briefly wondering what kind of sparks might fly when the two of them were finally forced to work together, "...you'll love him." He said with a smile while storming his way out of the room and down into the adjoining corridors.

Conway had to remember to take a slightly different route, their agreement at the senior command meeting was already coming into effect and the security protocols were being turned upside down, even in the midst of the storm they couldn't afford to take any risks. As he turned, he was hit by another wave of the 'stuff' that was so potent in this unique storm. The General's head began to spin, he placed his palms on his temples and winced at the pain, fighting to keep it at bay. It was no use... Jason Conway saw a face smiling at him, he couldn't quite pick out who it was. There was a flash, documents pertaining to the anonymous intruder on the base were scattered all over a table top. Another flash, there were two cups of coffee now on the table, gently steaming away invitingly. Suddenly, Jason couldn't breath, he dropped to his knees and tried to fight it. The base around him then changed again, it was now filled with heat and light. Explosions. He could see Meropis from above, and looking around he realized he was on the Sun Tzu! This was all happening way too quickly, Conway felt a hot searing pain tear through his forehead. As the ship took off in a hurry, a shock wave rocked the vessel. Jason ran to the window and saw Meropis going up in flames, explosions and fire rocketing up from various sub sections of the city. A chunk of land briefly swelled before collapsing into an enormous sink hole, that had to be the Eastern pier going down. He felt his blood run cold, beads of sweat ran down his neck. Conway rubbed his eyes. He was back in the corridor now, still on his knees, there was an M9 pistol pressed against his forehead. He looked up and saw... Andrew McManus? The scotsman smiled and cricked his neck. Conway screamed, a sound full of anger and pent up aggression, as he launched himself up and toward the former Sergeant.

And then there was nothing. He was stood back in the corridor, the sound of the howling wind outside flowed through the halls and the furious patter of the rain gently vibrated the windows. Conway shook his head, setting off at a run toward the infirmary. They needed to stop this soon.

Síobhan felt her head begin spin, with every blink of her eyelids multiple faces flashed before her eyes of people lost and people yet meet. As the rapid blinking of her eyes ceased a face final came in to Focus of Jason Conway in a picture frame. Jason's face hung on the wall of a make shift room. Síobhan's eyes were glued to the picture as a voice if a lady spoke from behind her.

" I keep forgetting you were on the first expedition Síobhan, did you know him well?"

Síobhan continued to look as she spoke," Not enough, I would of liked to. I still stand by what I said do to command. He did the job to the best of his ability. Síobhan turned to face the voice of a lady she would know of Plukovník Fiala Skala , " I still don't understand why you have his picture up?

Fiala was in her late forty's with jet black hair and Czech military badge on her sleeve. " It seems only right he led the first so he should play apart now still, plus the picture helps when I speak to those friends he made. I didn't want his job Síobhan, I was only sent to rescue those who escaped to the Alpha site I had no plan in staying. You didn't had to come back, don't get me wrong its good but."

Síobhan could feel the passion build up as she spoke, " I know you didn't but I need to know what happened to the Sun Tzu! and its crew. That's why I returned and in away to finish what Jason started Plukovník."

With a flash Síobhan found her self back in the medical bay sitting on the floor wondering what the hell just happened as Jason came in the door.

" Your alive and the city it's. "

She paused as she began to realise what she experienced hadn't happened yet.

As he took a call from the Infirmary, Dr. MacKay was hard at work trying to get a shield up. All systems were still OK, but the nerds were missing. They were in SOOO much trouble when they got back. And where the HELL were Kelly and Achilles?! Oh, right, dealing with that...woman from IOA. His head hurt. He spoke into the reciever.

Kells, Glavish...how are YOU guys holding up down there?! He let out a sigh. He needed to check in with Grover; Bakshi was due to report in from the Forest, as well. He would wait for those things.

MacKay's voice echoed in the background.

Fine, but unless he can unbury this city we can't do much more than we already have... Huh? Unbury the...? Jason turned to look at the man, but not before his head began to pound. His vision swam again. The radiation! He tried to fight it...

Síobhan felt her head spin, no sooner had she come back to the present did she hear two voices call out to her and slowly one became more dominant.

" Síobhan, come back to us and stop day dreaming. As I was saying the Hopan have been more than friendly and came to us as soon as they noticed the incident in there system." It was Plukovník Fiala Skala again speaking but this time Síobhan found herself fighting to try and understand which time was right. Slowly her mind began to settle as she began to remember more of were she was. It was the Alpha Site, she had just this morning talked to Fiala about Jason and why she came back.

Síobhan held a puzzled look, "Who are the Hopen ?"

A Captain stood to the left working a control panelist's and spoke.
"The best way to describe the Hopen in one word is Space 1999, there pretty friendly even after half there population was hit by the plague, SV-2 showed them how make penicillin and since then they been good to us." Fiala gave him the look, the one which showed she was losing her patients, The captain continued, " This morning at nine hundred hours a bright light lit up the sky, two of there craft went missing and in return they were left with what looks like a space ship grave yard. On top of that we think we have finally found her, Mac has kept us updated and is leading a joint mission with the Hopen. Were due an update at any minute. "

Síobhan began to feel dizzy and Jason's voice rang through her head, once again she fought to to understand which was real as the medical bay overlapped the Alpha Site Command area. Síobhan fought it off and paid attention to what she taught was real.

Síobhan found herself in the medical bay, still feeling a bit funny and still with memories of what had happened. Straight away she went to her laptop to begin typing everything that happened and what she remembered. No sooner had she finished did the race called the Hopen hit her mind, straight away she typed in a search for the races details and than bingo. They the race was on file but they hadn't yet visited them, there name came up with a trader they had dealt with.

Síobhan leaned back in her chair hoping something would spring to mind, Plukovník Fiala Skala. No sooner had she typed in the her name details along with a photo pop on to the screen. It was the woman she had seen, the name plus rank were spot on and she operated from Earth's Stargate concentration at present with rogue factions with one of Earth's allies. This only confirmed what she saw had been real.

" There all dead, you reading there all dead" A panicked voice echoed from the com's any yet from the look she seemed to be the only one to hear it," only found half of the crew, they were dumped in the mess, we've no Officers and no Pilots located. What makes this strange is all items not bolted down were taken, were also getting reports from the Hopen teams of the same results on the other ships."

Síobhan still looked around the room with no one seeming to pay attention to the voice from the com. Everyone was working on there own problem as Síobhan placed her hand to her head wondering if she was crazy. A female voice spoke this time.

" All ships took heavy damage, but not from each other. We also sir found a Wraith mother ship also stripped of all items. I have managed to get some of there records. One log I came across is between the Sun Tzu! and the Wraith ship they seem to be working together with a number of other ships trying to escape from...

With that silence and the voices were gone, Síobhan sat down and took a drink from her water. Was she going crazy was all that ran through her mind.

Hanyuu glanced up at the whiteboard hanging on the infirmary wall. Earth names and a date that was Earthlike but not close enough to any sort of date she remembered. That being said, was the number to big or too small? Not that Hanyuu did time, it was mostly unnecessary in her line of work. What was her line of work anyway? So many questions.

It was Siobhan's questioning that brought a memory back. "Colorado. I was attending the McKay conference." She responded after a while. Long enough that she hadn't noticed Siobhan move away or anything else for that matter. Seeing Siobhan suddenly over by her computer raised another slew of questions. Was her mind still waking up? And what was with this feeling, it was like time was raining.

The Tau'ri were being strange, even for THEM. Paisley still wasn't that comfortable with them, and their ways. She was learning, but not there yet. She hated those times she needed to leave the Infirmary; she believed that the Medicine Man and Woman were the smartest ones about. She noticed the one called Hanyuu glancing at the whiteboard above her head. Paisley didn't read Tau'ri languages-she could compute their spoken words. Her operating system organ was a failure only in that way. She turned her icy gaze towards it, as well. What did she SEE there?!

The one called Hanyuu spoke out again, but Dr. Kells didn't seem to notice.

Colorado. I was attending the McKay conference. Paisley's Operating System organ churned. Colorado. That was in the Tau'ri land called "North America." Specifically, someplace called the "United...States" was it?! Yes. United States of America. Her OS organ recited it out to her as if she were reading an encylopeida entry. The capital was DC. They were surrounded by three oceans-well-TWO oceans and one "sea", not that Paisley understood the difference-and bordered by a place called Canada to the North, and Mexico to the south. That Mexico place sounded like a fun time, and Paisley longed to go there. She looked at Hanyuu,and hopped off her bed.

There's a Tau'ri male unit aboard the Base now called McKay. He came yesterday-just before you were found. Lucky you are; at least you weren't half dead when they found you. The Tau'ri are acting oddly. But you're not. So...where are you from?! You don't smell like them, either. The Tau'ri smelled faintly of unpleasant pheromones, which the Medicine people told her was "body odor." She realized she might have to be the one in charge for a bit, until the Tau'ri got it together. She wondered if their measly systems would reach to Heliv-they could use a cruiser. Or five. She spoke again, this time to Kells.

What is it that ails you, Medicine woman? She said, in her robotic tone.

Síobhan turned to the guests, with a quick change of facial expression went to a more happy look to hide how she really felt.

" I'm fine, nothing to worry about and I'm more worried about you too. Now things may get a bit rough but please remain calm everything is under control."

Síobhan focused her attention on .. "You were saying you were at a conference of Dr Mc Kay. Can you give us any more detail, even something small that could help."

As Síobhan sat there she could feel her hand shake and in response placed it on her nee in hope to calm the shaking. Suddenly a siren blared through her ears, straight away she realised this was from the future again and clearly she was the only one to hear it. She tried to ignore it to no effect. The sound slowly became louder as voices soon started to shout out locations of intruders on what sounded like areas on the Alpha Site or to be on the Alpha Site.

Síobhan placed her hands over her ears as the noise began to rip right in to her head and pain of the noise could be seen across her face.

" Make it stop"

[Dr. Caiden West]

Caiden decided to run a head CT scan on himself and see what turned up. He of course knew that something would be wrong with his brain, his cerebrum to be exact. Doctor Glavish already determined that there is temporal radiation in the air and that is obviously disturbing our brain chemistry making us think we're in the past before bringing us back to the present.

Caiden set up the machine and had the nurse ready to hit the buttons when Caiden was ready. He lied down on the CT scanner bed and nodded and the nurse hit the button on the laptop and the scanning began. It of course wasn't really a CT scanner like those on Earth, it is rather the Ancient version and usually they do a full body scan and point out anomalies but he just needs his head examined and that was all that happened.

A couple of minutes later the scan was complete and Caiden looked at the laptop for the results. Sure enough there was radiation that was forcing us all to live at different times and recall memories from our past. There is no way to counteract that effect, at the moment anyways. The storm was over the city and as long as it was, our brain chemistry will be a little off. This may be considered a medical problem but it is more of a science problem, maybe the shields or some sort of Ancient Technology can help?

"Doctor West to Doctor's McKay or Glavish, how are you guys coming on the temporal radiation? Do you think there is some sort of Ancient Technology or knowledge that can help us? This radiation, I am sure inflicted this city before..." Doctor West said over his earpiece, as he hasn't heard from anyone outside the infirmary in a little while.

"There's a Tau'ri male unit aboard the Base now called McKay. He came yesterday-just before you were found. Lucky you are; at least you weren't half dead when they found you. The Tau'ri are acting oddly. But you're not. So...where are you from?! You don't smell like them, either."

A male unit? Hanyuu was now fairly certain she was no longer on Earth. At least she had a clue to where she was now. Not that she minded per say she just would rather know where she was.

"You were saying you were at a conference of Dr Mc Kay. Can you give us any more detail, even something small that could help."

Hanyuu cocked her head in response. "Doctor? There hasn't been a Dr McKay since The Star Destroyer. The conference was lead by Stacey McKay, his granddaughter."

Hanyuu looked around the room again hoping to get a better baring of where she was. The military presence suggested something clandestine and the machines looked Ancient in design. Atlantis? But they'd made it open to the public a few years ago. Turning into something more akin to a tourist destination more recently. What was the other Ancient city ship called? Though that was assuming a city ship. It could well be an old Aurora class cruiser or a random base.

" Make it stop" Hanyuu span and moved quickly but calmly. She wrapped her hands around Siobhan and hugged her tightly feeling something being drawn into herself. Glowing an eerie purple colour for a moment she looked quizzically at Dr Kells. "What did you do?"

Síobhan felt the fear and terror her future self felt which seemed to anchor her even more with in her future. The sirens blared, the voices screened and all Síobhan could do was listen while still been unable to block out the noise.

" Enemy have reached the second level and make there way to the artifact,"

" Were been over run,

Were not even making a scratch on there armour.


" incoming Traveller, " With that the sound of the Stargate opening washed through her ears over and over as voices spoke out.

" Iris is not responding"than the voices began to over lap.

" Unknown traveler,

Incoming traveler,

Incoming device through the gate.

Síobhan could feel the panic begin to consume her and pain in the head she knew was a sign a trouble. She tried to calm herself but yet it continued to eat in to her and turn her body against it's self. Her body began to shake with all signs pointing to a seizure and than it all began to fade. As they began to drift a clear image of numbers went over and over again in her head.

Síobhan finally felt herself anchored back in her own time, again she had taken something back of interest and she had a fare idea it had to do with her box. Finding herself in a hug with the stranger Síobhan guessed it was the stranger that pulled her out and just in time if she was right. Not thinking out of pure delight to possibly having a closer step to her Artifact Síobhan s placed her hands on the strangers face and kissed her forehead and at a fast pace went over to the computer. While the numbers were still in her head Síobhan typed away focussing on nothing else. A smile glimmered from the corner of her mouth as she spoke.

"My dear I did nothing, it was all you. Thank you."

[Mikaere Glavish]

"There's no evidence that anything caused it," Glavish said in response to Doctor West's query. "It's just as likely that this has always been a cyclical event on this planet. Of course I have no way of knowing this without scans of the entire system from orbit, which... isn't going to happen right now." Glavish's hands continued to move over the console in front of him.

His attention was diverted once more when his console gave a slight chime. "This is what I was looking for," he remarked to himself. The temporal readings were akin to the parameters of a project that he was working on. Granted it was similar to something that McKay had been involved in, or rather a version of him. Either way, he meant to take full advantage of the opportunity and saved the readings to his personal drive.

Upon hearing Conway's voice, he made a decision. "I'm going to try to rendezvous with you in Operations," Glavish said uncertain if the comm was actually going through. He looked around the infirmary and then shrugged at West. "Just... try to keep everyone sane and... mentally here... and now." Shrugging over the request, he moved to depart. As he made his way along the corridor, he could hear the storm raging outside. His pace was rapid as he raced through the corridors, until he heard something... someone.

"Mik!"

Hearing someone actually call him by his nick name forced the scientist to stop and look around. Who was it? He could tell that it was a woman, but where was it coming from? Standing at the intersection, he looked to the right and then to the left. There wasn't anything... or anyone, only the sound fo the storm. He shook his head and proceeded to Operations once more.  He heard the voice again, and once more he came to a stop, but it was then that he felt a hand rest gently on his shoulder... his bare shoulder.  The corridors had disappeared, and in front of him was the horizon, and the sun as it first peeked out from the ground in the distance. He could feel another hand wrap around him from beneath his own arm. Her hand ran gently over his chest. He could feel her head rest against his back as she embraced him.

Turning, Mik found himself once more in the corridor, his companion gone without a trace. Mik shook his head. He couldn't afford to be distracted by what was clearly a delusion. He did his best to focus on a single task, reaching Operations. He continued onward, now moving at a bit of a run. Suddenly, he felt a wave of dizziness come over him. He slowed and then fell down to his knees. His hand reached out to brace himself, but  instead he found it resting on... stone. His eyes slowly came to the realization that he was kneeling at a grave... a tombstone. Looking around, he saw that he was alone. He felt a hint of annoyance amidst the grief that no one else was there.  That things had ended as they had begun, with him alone.

"Doctor Glavish? Are you okay?"

Looking up, Glavish realized that he was no longer outside... no longer at the grave site. He was a few feet from Operations. An analyst reach down to help him up. "Should I escort you to the Infirmary, sir?" he asked.

"Of course not," Glavish snapped. "I just left there!" Glavish knocked the offered hand away and got to his feet. He pushed past the analyst, leaving the younger man confused as he made his way to his destination.

The General had burst through the door of the infirmary, slowing his jog down, just in time to see the Irish Doctor Kells sat on the floor looking up at him,
"You're alive and the city it's..." She began, Conway's head was clear for the moment but he got the impression Kells wasn't so lucid, or at least was just coming around from another dose of the temporal radiation. Jason scanned the room, Hanyuu was still perched up on the operating table, dangling her legs innocently and watching the proceedings with interest. Glavish was engaged with a computer terminal, likely already trying to work out what the hell was going on. Paisley and Doctor West were across the room from him along with two of the nurses Doctor Kells had hand picked for her team. Just as he was about to speak, Kells dropped back into a flashback again, slumping to the floor. Jason rushed to her side and tried to get her to come to, as did one of the nurses.

"Doctor Kells. Come back to me, Kells. Come on..." He gently shook her shoulders and patted her on the cheek, trying to rouse her from the affects of the storm. Jason was glad he'd gone down to one knee as he felt a twinge of dizziness pass through him as well, screwing his eyes shut he fought it off and shook her again. Much to his relief, the good Doctor came around with a smile and was helped to her feet. She immediately went off to her laptop and started urgently punching in data. Jason let her be and turned to Doctor Glavish,
"Mik, I need you in the control room. You and Rodney are up, it's time to get the city healthy again and get us through this damn storm in one piece. Comms are down, heck almost everything is down, hence my trip down here." Jason noticed Paisley make her way over to look after both Hanyuu and the incredibly focused Doctor Kells at her terminal, he hoped the trio would be okay under the care of the nurses and Doctor West. He spotted the latter mentioned Doctor setting up a scan on the CT machine, a wise decision as they could use all the information they could get on how this damn storm was affecting them.

He wished he had the time to stick around and talk more but time was something they didn't have the luxury of right now, or did they? It was all so confusing. The storm was messing with his head and he hated it. He concentrated on his earpiece, picking out odd words here and there. Before he left, the General addressed the infirmary,
"I want you all to sit tight in here, our teams are going to start bringing in a lot of casualties any moment now. By the sounds of it there won't be any visible injuries, but more of the same symptoms you've already been through. Do your best to help them, and remember they've all seen a lot..." He let that hang in the air, not even wishing the consider some of the horrible PTSD-like nightmares that some of the base might now be reliving. Before he finished, a thought struck him, something he'd seen on a film once. Well, it was worth throwing the idea out there...
"Does anyone here know what a Faraday cage is? If we can build one here, it might help treat short term affects of radiation." He left the idea with them and turned on his heel to set off at a brisk walk, following a very determined Doctor Glavish out of the infirmary. Jason tried to pay attention to the comms in his ear but they were still going haywire, the radiation was distorting almost every message and making it impossible for him to grab a clear picture of the current state of events. Glavish was seemingly on a mission as Jason struggled to keep up with him, he began to make his way back towards operations but couldn't see the scientist ahead of him. Come to think of it, he wasn't even sure if Glavish had acknowledged his presence in the infirmary just now. Jason sighed and shook his head, realizing the radiation had probably taken a hold of Mik as well.

[Paisley Gregorvich]

Paisley jumped to action; she recognized what was going on. In her Galaxy Defenses class, she'd learnt about the mind-altering technology that the Ancients possessed. It was supposed to have been controlled, eons ago, before Heliv was even founded, when her people were warring. One of the factions, the Free People of Cebos, had purportedly stolen some ancient tech devices and had been threatening to use them on the other side. Her Ancient Father had been able to stop it before it destroyed them all. Maybe that's why she was unaffected-she was not born with the same operating organs as the Tau'ri.

She didn't watch Hanyuu save Dr. Kells, but instead she stood in front of a nurse, who was doubled over in convulsions. She shined her peering glass at the woman, reflecting back the gentlness and sweetness that the nurse had shown Paisley. It took a few moments, but the young woman recovered. Paisley looked at the woman.

It will be wise for you to keep your processes...how do you say?...pleasant. They want you to suffer. She didn't elaborate as she moved on to the next person, a male phelbotimist who told her jokes sometimes about her blue colored blue. Same thing. Slowly, between the two young female beings, they were able to revive the Infirmary. When she got to Dr. West, Paisley had to work harder. The man had a lot of anger in his person; on her planet, they called this "aura" and it was used as a diagnostic tool in thier medicines, but the Earth doctors had thought she was minus a few screws when she talked about it. She directed him slowly, her robotic monotone softening into a slightly Russian-tinged speech.

Dr. West. Look at me. Look at the glass. LOOK AT IT! See the good in it. In YOU. It's the only way! It glowed pink for a moment, and Paisley did her best to reflect the good things she'd learned from him-football, and Earth meals called "steak", and how to beat Dr. Harrison at sillly humanoid card games! After a moment, he seemed better, and she nodded.

Pull it together; I'll go find others. If the rest of you Tau'ri respond the same way, this place will be bustling with people. She said, co-opting some of the Tau'ri vocabulary. She still had a slight Russian hint to her robotic voice, but it wasn't obvious. She stepped into a hallway, heading for the Gate room, and the Tau'ri who were in charge. She didn't know what evil lurked beyond thier walls, but Paisley realized that she was loyal to these people...and she liked them. She wanted to save them-they might be unwise and warring, but as a race, they weren't too bad.

Síobhan sat down for a minute and began to regroup her thoughts. If others were going through what she was there was more than likely going to be casualties and who knew what else. It was time to show why she was a high earner.
Síobhan stood up and took a position in the centre of the room. She spoke aloud which just high lighted her Irish accent.

" OK everyone listen up, we can more than likely expect casualties so let's get are act together. You all know what's needed so get to it." With that said Síobhan approached Dr West and spoke
" From the data you've seen can you come up with a treatment to prevent these time jumps or what ever they are. " No sooner had she finished did she turn to the guards. " As of this moment you pair are the only ones to have a weapon in this room, anyone including officers are to hand over there weapons to you. That includes anything that can be used as a weapon." Síobhan turned back to Dr West " Hope I'm not overstepping, I know this is your show.

Hanyuu stared at Dr Kells. A number of feelings came over her as she watched her recover, confusion, curiosity, pride from Dr Kells' words, and a little fear of the unknown. She was snapped back to the now however by Paisley's voice. "Pull it together; I'll go find others. If the rest of you Tau'ri respond the same way, this place will be bustling with people."
