The discussion with Hart was long and wasn't yet resolved, differences of opinion he suspected, and he hoped the Americans, hart in particular were paranoid enough to try and go through his encrypted messages to his superiors and the others he sent them two, though with non Stargate related computer systems it was going to take them a few years to get through, then again General Conway and Colonel Riley knew the encryption keys and Hart might be able to get access to those keys or those men, not that he wouldn't know about it, or whom ever ended up with it would know if it had been either cracked or opened with a key regardless, the perks of quantum mechanics. But if the man was that much of spook he probably wouldn't be around here with a realistic name like that, if he did, the Flight Lieutenant was likely safe from multiple angles, besides one USAF Special Agent even an counter intelligence one wasn't going to change the minds of most of the senior brass above him or of the minister, if it came to that.
The conversation with Paisley was a nice change of pace.
"I am sorry. I don't. I do what Doctor Harrison calls "mimicking" because you wouldn't recognize my native language. I don't mean to be offensive." He smiled a little, he had confused her. "No no, it's fine I didn't mean to confuse you, I had just assumed you would have had an accent of a different sort, being Alien to us and all." He was going to do his best to try and be as clear as possible with her.
"It is understandable, and I am so glad to have my things. I am having trouble connecting to Heliv; something about solar storms interrupting the signal. I would feel out of place without it." He smiled weakly again.
"it was just a few button pushes, thank the Asgard or techs that installed the transporters more than me. Have you sought help from us at all? the astrophysicist's or Comms people, maybe we could even try tying it into the Cities or the the Sun Tzu's long range communications, unless yours is far better than ours." He looked at Hart, they were there partly to get allies, and besides she seemed friendly enough, even if he wasn't convinced anyone but Americans were to be trusted and even then he bet the agent had some doubts about them too, spooks.
Paisley then spoke to Liam for Brief while and Decker took some more sips of his drink. "Liam Hart. In my language, Hart is bad word*, you might call it a curse word. Forgive me a chuckle." Oh she'd love really ockker Australian then, he thought with smile.
"Really? What do you call your heart then? Well the organ responsible for pumping blood throughout your body?" Liam asked.
"Well, we have an organ called a Giri, before our people became enlightened, we had internal structures like yours, but we lost them when we learned to improve our operating system. We call love "rarlo", which I guess is more or less what I meant by it being "bad"-that feeling rarlo is something that you're ashamed of; at least, if you're the princess." That was surprising limitations on the princess, thought not strange, but often most societies that still had proper sorts of Kings or Queens they would have more freedom, but then again they might not, being public figures or what not, maybe he'd ask a question, he'd wait for them to finish.
"Please help me to understand. What is normal behavior for one of these social gatherings? The watching, like the Elders, she indicated the General, Captain Miller and Doc Harrison. The "dialed-to-eleven" but seemingly effective behavior of the scary blonde woman,or you two?" Liam answered first.
"There is no normal, well not on Meropis anyways. Here we have an odd bunch of people, from doctors, to scientists, to military personnel to intelligence operatives, like me then you have no offense, but aliens like yourself. Of course then you have a few other professions here but if we were home we probably wouldn't be at a lame party like this, or if we were we'd have our families with us. Typically we would bring our families, friends or significant others with us. We would also have good food and well I could go on, but like I said there is no normal. Humans are weird and on our planet we have almost 200 different countries with probably over a thousand different customs and normal behaviors, so what is a social gathering like for your people?"
Decker then went. "Normal is really something we all try to define, probably the most normal thing we do is to try and make something normal or call it normal, everyone's different, at least my Country we do our best to try and celebrate and build on the difference as I believe Liam's does, not that either of us are any good at it, we have and mostly still are separate from the rest of the even our own galaxy on a select group know the truth of it all, all here are part of that group, hopefully though that changes, But when that does isn't up to anyone in this room, but I would prefer everyone knew, but it isn't my call to make, and having different opinions and ways of doing things is also 'normal' just as me and agent Hart had before you introduced yourself. as for who comes to these kinds of things he's hit it on the head, but somethings involve whole communities, countries or even groups of states for various reasons. "
"I used to serve in the Helivan Sea Guard. I understand what you mean, Mister Hart...we would get all kinds of people on Heliv, from the slaves to myself. It's compulsory unless you choose to give to Heliv instead, either through money or through works...I think you people call it "community service." After one year of compulsory service, we then go into different jobs, all preassigned at birth. Whatever your father did, you will do, too. A social gathering on Heliv is mostly a private celebration, held in one's home, but on Heliv National Day, we have a planet wide celebration; candles are light, and there's music and dance, and the King speaks on screens set up in every major city. Then we have a large feast. We have a winter holiday, as well, which is usually formal, with a ball and four days of parties. The young people sometimes have parties out of doors, but it's illegal on Heliv to have anything too ostenatious. We like peace."
He thought over that, predefined jobs, now that was something very odd to him and probably most people in the room, the rest of it was similar, except the parties thing. "Where I come from on our planet, we have most of our celebrations outdoors, its kind of part of it all, also most of ours occur during the summer on my countries hemisphere of the planet, or in times where the weather is reasonable to be outside, in fact quite a few of our days are excuses or have becomes excuses to be quite heavily publicly intoxicated, though going too far is still illegal it often becomes difficult to control, and Formality is something we aren't cultural fans of, happens when a lot of your history is based on being sent there as criminals or free settlers trying to tame a wild land, along with rebellion against rampart authority and or taxation with out representation which was the birth of Liam's country and direct democratic representation in my country. As for peace, it's a large part of why I joined my countries armed forces, as weird as that could sound." He took a breath and a dip of his drink."My country also used to have a selective draft, where people are required to serve in our armed forces, it was called national service, it ended nearly 40 years ago, but it has it merits and problems, in my opinion. As for the jobs preassigned at birth is it only by patrilineal descent, or can it comes from someones mother? are there ways out of it or to change jobs? I've had pretty much two jobs in my life but in this current one I've done many things. But also it it allowable if I ask some questions about Helivian government, perhaps its structure, style and this one might be the most controversial of all, you said you had a King, but can a queen rule and how did they derive their power, from conquest, deity given right, a combination of both?" He hoped he wasn't overstepping the mark but he was curious.
