Presidential Citizens Medal		"Exemplary deeds or services [performed] for his or her country or fellow citizens."
Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor		Law Enforcement, firefighter, or emergency service employees who commit "Actions above and beyond the call of duty; and exhibiting exceptional courage, extraordinary decisiveness and presence of mind; or an unusual swiftness of action, regardless of his or her personal safety, in an attempt to save or protect human life."
President's Award for Distinguished Federal Civilian Service		Civilian employees of the United States Federal Government who have given "contributions so outstanding that the officer or employee is deserving of greater public recognition than that which can be accorded by the head of the department or agency in which he is employed.
Distinguished Intelligence Cross		Employees of the Central Intelligence Agency. "For a voluntary act or acts of extraordinary heroism involving the acceptance of existing dangers with conspicuous fortitude and exemplary courage."
Distinguished Intelligence Medal		Employees of the Central Intelligence Agency. "For performance of outstanding services or for achievement of a distinctly exceptional nature in a duty or responsibility, the results of which constitute a major contribution to the mission of the Agency."
Intelligence Star		Employees of the Central Intelligence Agency. "For a voluntary act or acts of courage performed under hazardous conditions or for outstanding achievements or services rendered with distinction under conditions of grave risk."
Intelligence Medal of Merit		Employees of the Central Intelligence Agency. "For the performance of especially meritorious service or for an act or achievement conspicuously above normal duties which has contributed significantly to the mission of the Agency."
Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal		Employees of the Central Intelligence Agency. "For an individual’s cumulative record of service reflecting a pattern of increasing levels of responsibility or increasingly strategic impact and with distinctly exceptional achievements that constitute a major contribution to the mission of the Agency."
Career Intelligence Medal		Employees of the Central Intelligence Agency. "For a cumulative record of service which reflects exceptional achievements that substantially contributed to the mission of the Agency."
Career Commendation Medal		Employees of the Central Intelligence Agency. "Awarded for exemplary service significantly above normal duties that had an important contribution to the Agency’s mission."
Intelligence Commendation Medal		Employees of the Central Intelligence Agency. "For the performance of especially commendable service or for an act or achievement significantly above normal duties which results in an important contribution to the mission of the Agency."
Exceptional Service Medallion		Employees of the Central Intelligence Agency. "For injury or death resulting from service in an area of hazard."
Department of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award		Exceptionally distinguished service of significance to a DoD Component or function, or Department of Defense as a whole.
Secretary of Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Award		“Demonstration of outstanding service of significance to the Department of Defense involving personal sacrifice and inconvenience in the performance or assistance of such service; and motivation by patriotism, good citizenship, and a sense of public responsibility”
Armed Forces Civilian Service Medal (AFCSM)		Direct support of military forces, whose members are engaged in military operations of a prolonged peacekeeping or humanitarian nature.
Eugene G. Fubini Award		Recognize an individual from the private sector who has made highly significant contributions to the Department of Defense in an advisory capacity over a sustained period of time.
Office of the Secretary of Defense Exceptional Civilian Service Award		This award was established to recognize civilian employees who have distinguished themselves by exceptional service to the Secretary of Defense or a Component within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. This award consists of a medal, lapel pin, and citation signed by the Secretary or Head of an OSD Component. Subsequent awards consist of the foregoing recognition devices and a bronze, silver, or gold palm, as appropriate.
Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Valor		An act of heroism or sacrifice, with voluntary risk of personal safety in the face of danger either on or off the job.
Secretary of Defense Medal for the Defense of Freedom		Established to acknowledge civilian employees of the United States Department of Defense (DoD) who are killed or wounded in the line of duty.
Joint Civilian Service Commendation Award (JCSCA		This award is intended for senior service on a joint military staff, and is senior in precedence to the service-specific Commendation Medals. As such, it is worn above the service Commendation Medals on a military uniform. As a joint award, multiple awards are denoted with an oak leaf cluster regardless of service.
Joint Civilian Service Achievement Award (JCSAA)		"Meritorious service or achievement in either combat or noncombat situations based on sustained performance or specific achievement of a superlative nature but which does not warrant a Commendation Medal or higher."
DOD Inspector General Distinguished Service Award		Granted to those who distinguished themselves by exceptional service or contributions of the broadest scope to the OIG or DoD. The achievements or service must be truly exceptional when measured against the position requirements of the individual and should far exceed the contributions and service of others with comparable responsibilities.
Army Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service		A pattern of achievement and excellence, which may have been previously recognized by awards up to and including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award.
Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award		"Performance of duties in an exemplary manner, demonstrating unusual initiative and skill, achieving outstanding results, or exhibiting unusual courage in an emergency."
Army Superior Civilian Service Award		Nominations for this award reflect superior service, achievement or heroism of a lesser degree than that recognized by the Meritorious Civilian Service Award. Employees who have shown excellent performance through the previous receipt of honorary or monetary performance awards, can be considered for this award.
Army Commander's Award for Civilian Service		Service or achievement of a lesser degree than recognized by the Superior Civilian Service Award.
Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service		Service or achievement of a lesser degree than recognized by the Commander's Award for Civilian Service.
Secretary of the Army Award for Valor		An act of heroism or sacrifice, with voluntary risk of personal safety in the face of danger either on or off the job.
Army Civilian Award for Humanitarian Service		Meritorious direct “hands-on” participation in an act or operation of a humanitarian nature directed toward an individual or groups of individuals.
Air Force Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service		"Profound Air Force-wide impact to programs or projects as documented by development of improved methods or procedures, initiation of revolutionary ideas, or unprecedented achievements or benefits to the government."
Navy Distinguished Civilian Service Award		Distinguished and/or extraordinary services to the Department of the Navy that far exceed the contributions and service of others with comparable responsibilities
Navy Superior Civilian Service Award		This award recognizes employee contributions that are exceptionally high in value, but affect a smaller area than the Navy Distinguished Civilian Service Award and are more significant than those for which the award of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award is made. The Superior Civilian Service Award may be awarded for contributions that serve as a model for other commands.
Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award		Meritorious service or contributions resulting in high value or benefits for the Navy or the Marine Corps. It is conferred for a contribution that applies to a local or smaller area of operation or a project of lesser importance than would be warranted for consideration for the Navy Distinguished Civilian Service Award or the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award.
Navy Captain Robert Dexter Conrad Award for Scientific Achievement		The Captain Robert Dexter Conrad Award is an award presented annually to the individual making an outstanding contribution in naval research and development.
Navy Distinguished Public Service Award		Specific courageous or heroic acts or exceptionally outstanding service of substantial and long-term benefit to the Navy, Marine Corps, or Department of the Navy as a whole.
Gold Lifesaving Medal		"The Gold Lifesaving Medal may be awarded to an individual who performed a rescue or attempted rescue at the risk of his or her own life, and demonstrates extreme and heroic daring."
Silver Lifesaving Medal		"The Silver Lifesaving Medal may be awarded to an individual who performed a rescue or attempted rescue where the circumstances do not sufficiently distinguish the individual to deserve the medal of gold, but demonstrate such extraordinary effort as to merit recognition."
FBI Star		"The FBI Star is awarded for serious injury sustained in the direct line of duty from physical confrontation with criminal adversaries, an injury inflicted by weapons, gunshot wounds inflicted in the line of duty, or an injury so severe that it would require substantial emergency room sutures, hospitalization, or comprehensive medical treatment for a sustained period of time."
FBI Medal for Meritorious Achievement		"The FBI Medal for Meritorious Achievement is awarded for extraordinary and exceptional meritorious service in a duty of extreme challenge and great responsibility, extraordinary and exceptional achievements in connection with criminal or national security cases, or a decisive, exemplary act that results in the protection or the direct saving of life in severe jeopardy in the line of duty."
FBI Shield of Bravery		"The FBI Shield of Bravery is presented for brave and courageous acts occurring in the line of duty or within the scope of FBI employment which may extend to major assistance to a task force or undercover operation, grave situations, or crisis confrontations associated with the highest priority cases of the FBI."
FBI Medal of Valor		"The FBI Medal of Valor is presented in recognition of an exceptional act of heroism or voluntary risk of personal safety and life, and this act must have occurred in the direct line of duty or within the scope of FBI employment and in the face of criminal adversaries."
Department of State Secretary's Distinguished Service Award		"Recognition of exceptionally outstanding leadership, professional competence, and significant accomplishment over a sustained period of time in the field of foreign affairs"
Department of State Secretary’s Award		"Recognition of sacrifice of health or life, in the performance of official duties.    "
Department of State Award for Heroism		"Acts of courage or outstanding performance under unusually difficult or dangerous circumstances."
Department of State Thomas Jefferson Star for Foreign Service		"Death or a serious illness or injury that results in death, permanent incapacity or disability."
Department of State Distinguished Honor Award		"Exceptionally outstanding service or achievements of marked national or international significance."
Department of State Superior Honor Award		"A special act or service or sustained extraordinary performance covering a period of one year or longe.r"
Department of State Meritorious Honor Award		"A special act or service or sustained outstanding performance."
Department of State Expeditionary Service Award		"Expeditionary service in designated field locations."
Department of State Secretary's Career Achievement Award		"Twenty five or more years of government service performed with dedication and determination."
Congressional Space Medal of Honor (astronauts only)		"Exceptionally meritorious efforts and contributions to the welfare of the Nation and mankind."
Distinguished Service Medal		"Distinguished service, ability, or courage, [that] has...made a contribution representing substantial progress to aeronautical or space exploration in the interests of the United States"
Outstanding Leadership Medal		The NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal is awarded to US government employees only for notably outstanding leadership which affects technical or administrative programs of NASA. The leadership award may be given for an act of leadership, for sustained contributions based on a leader’s effectiveness, for the productivity of the leader’s program, or for the leader’s demonstrated ability in developing the administrative or technical talents of other employees.
Exceptional Service Medal		The NASA Exceptional Service Medal is an award granted to U.S. government employees for significant sustained performance characterized by unusual initiative or creative ability that clearly demonstrates substantial improvement in engineering, aeronautics, space flight, administration, support, or space-related endeavors which contribute to NASA programs.
Exceptional Achievement Medal		"A significant, specific accomplishment or substantial improvement in operations, efficiency, service, financial savings, science, or technology which contributes to the mission of NASA."
Exceptional Engineering Achievement Medal		The NASA Exceptional Engineering Achievement Medal is an award given for exceptional engineering contributions toward achieving the NASA mission. It is open to government employees and non-government personnel.
Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal		Awarded for unusually significant scientific contribution toward achievement of aeronautical or space exploration goals. This award may be given for individual efforts that have resulted in a contribution of fundamental importance in this field, or have significantly enhanced understanding of this field.
Exceptional Technology Achievement Medal		Technology contributions achieved in early technology development significantly contributing to the NASA mission, exemplary collaborative effort in achieving significant technology transfer, or exceptional utilization of a NASA-developed technology resulting in a significant commercial application.
Space Flight Medal (astronauts only)		"Significant achievement or service during individual participation as a civilian or military astronaut, pilot, mission specialist, payload specialist, or other space flight participant in a space flight mission."
Exceptional Bravery Medal		"Exemplary and courageous handling of an emergency by an individual who, independent of personal danger, has acted to prevent the loss of human life or U.S. government property." The award is open to government and non-government employees.
