Meropis From Above
Meropis is an Ancient city ship built several million years ago, presumably at the same time as Atlantis. It was abandoned in the Triangulum Galaxy, 3 million light years from Eart, for over 10,000 years until it was rediscovered by the Earth expedition.
Meropis Eastern Wing At Night
The city is the base of operations for the Meropis expedition. They have occupied the city and the main goal of the expedition is to learn more about Meropis, the people who built it, and any technology that may help defend Earth. There are many mysteries yet to be uncovered in the city.
As written by Dr. Banks. Many of these mythological stories could have links to actual events/people.
In mythology; Meropis (Ancient Greek: Μεροπίς) is an island mentioned by ancient Greek writer Theopompus of Chios in his work "Philippica", which is only fragmentarily maintained via Ailianus. It is situated beyond the world-ocean (Oceanus). Its inhabitants, the Méropes (poet. humans), are supposed to be twice as clever as average human beings, as well as getting twice as old (presumably The Ancients). Another place, called Anostos (Ἄνοστος, "Place of no return") is said to be situated on the outermost border of Meropis. It resembles a yawning abyss, does not have day or night, and is covered by cloudy, red fumes. The story of Meropis is neither a utopia nor a political allegory; it is an almost twin to Atlantis. Theopompos somewhat overstates many aspects of the Atlantis myth.
Discovery:
Upon finding the ancient outpost in Antarctica Dr. Daniel Jackson found out about Atlantis. An international expedition led by Dr. Weir was sent there. Three years after launching the Atlantis expedition, it was discovered in the database that a similar city named Meropis existed in another galaxy - opening a whole other galaxy of opportunity. Eventually, the IOA, Gate Treaty Alliance and Joint Chiefs of Staff gave the go ahead to send an expedition Meropis in the Triangulum Galaxy. Unfortunately, Earth has no ZPM to dial cross galaxy wormholes with. The fifth Daedalus-Class ship to be built on Earth by the U.S Government funded by the Chinese Government was named The Sun Tzu. This BC-304 deep space carrier was designated to the project named, the Triangulum project. The Sun Tzu left Earth with a full expedition led by U.S.A.F Brigadier General Jason Conway to establish an outpost in Meropis and to gather technology for use in the defense of earth. Upon discovery the expedition found that the city was cloaked to avoid any detection. A ZPM was powering it and had virtually been depleted upon arrival. It has been determined that the Meropis gate requires two ZPMs working simultaneously to dial enough power to connect a stable wormhole to Earth.
The City:
Meropis is similar to Atlantis in very many ways, but there are many many differences to be noted. Meropis was built by a small group of Alterans who had a passion for experimental new technology, we can only begin to marvel at the new wonders and secrets held within the city.
Meropis has been compared in size to the city of Manhattan and to Atlantis. Its size and technology accounts for its vast power requirements. The city was designed to operate using three Zero Point Modules, much like Atlantis. The power modules provided enough energy to power the shield against any attack or cloak the city. Assuming the shield isn't in constant use, the ZPMs could possibly last for hundreds of thousands of years before depletion. The expedition have temporarily powered sections of the city with Naquadah Generators and used a half depleted ZPM from the Sun Tzu to attempt to replace the two depleted ZPMs.
The city is shaped like a giant snowflake with wide flat piers on the outskirts, lower buildings moving in toward the center and a high spire containing the control room in the center surrounded by other sky scrapers. The control tower holds the gate room which is accessible by the puddle jumper bay above it. Distant sections of the city are accessible by transporters, similar to the ring transporters also designed by the Ancients.
The city is old. Some parts are falling into dis-repair whilst other parts are overgrown. It lies in a land locked area with nearby forests and hills. The nearest open water is a beach 70 miles to the South. The planet itself appears to be similar to Earth in terms of size, atmospheric and gravity conditions.
Interior:
Gate Room — The gate room of Meropis is an open, bi-level room located at the top of the city's highest spire. The Puddle Jumper bay is above it and Puddle Jumpers gain access to the gate room via large doors that open up above the gate platform. The Stargate is partially sunken into the platform floor and has no moving parts unlike Stargates in the Milky Way. Several stairs lead in different directions. A short set of stairs across from the Stargate leads to the operations center.
Operations Center (Gate Ops) — The center provides control of all major systems on Meropis. It is where the DHD, similar to Earth's Dialing Computer, is located. Meropis' DHD is able to recognize the origin of an incoming wormhole. Meropis' gate shield, an energy barrier, is also controlled from this location. The Meropis expedition uses their laptops in combination with the Ancient systems. The Ancient computer system uses a series of clear crystals that can be moved around. The operations center is also manages communication, internal sensors, and long range sensors. Unlike the Atlantis control room, the Meropis Stargate Operations has a solid blast shield which can be lowered from with in the room, there are also blast doors which can be locked into place effectively sealing of gate ops from the rest of the city in a crisis.
Control Chair Room — Meropis' main weapons can only be activated by a person with the ATA gene using the control chair. The user sits in the chair and mentally activates and controls the drone weapons. the Chair requires the power provided by a ZPM but has been powered for a short while using a Mark II Naquadah Generator in Atlantis. The available drones can be ascertained only by activating the chair.
Drone Weapons Storage — The individual drones are stored in the lower sections of the city in racks that resemble honeycombs. The control chair may fire thousands of drones. Meropis is likely capable of storing several thousand drones.
ZPM Room — Meropis was designed to operate using three ZPMS. If necessary, as is the case with the expedition, a single ZPM may be used with limitations. The ZPM outlet has three slots on a triangular platform with a nearby console for operation. When arriving in Meropis we found a fried ZPM and a near depleted one. Restarting the Meropis systems used up the near depleted one so we put one of our own in there. We now have one full powered and two depleted ZPMs currently running Meropis.
Conference Rooms — Meropis has two known conference rooms. The smaller of the two has a large triangular table while the larger room has a U-shaped table, with inward facing chairs.
Puddle Jumper Bay — The bay is located above the control room. It is a large circular two story room with Puddle jumpers lining the walls. Above and below the center of the room are large bay doors that open up to allow the jumpers to leave through the Stargate below, or through the opening to outside above.
Medical Facilities — Meropis has large medical facilities equipped with a combination of the best Earth and Ancient technology. In addition to patient areas with beds, there are research labs and observation areas.
Brig — It is unknown how many prisoners could be stored on Meropis but at least one brig has been found. It is a room with a large cage with horizontal bars at its center. The cage is further protected by a force field.
Technology:
Offense — Meropis' main weapons are its drones, operated by the control chair. Both offensive and defensive systems use enormous amounts of energy, ultimately requiring a ZPM.
Defense — In addition to its drone weapons, Meropis is protected by its shield, which can cover the entire city when provided enough power and protect it from numerous threats. A ZPM is required to operate the shield.
Cloak — Upon arriving at the planet Meropis was cloaked to avoid detection. Unlike Atlantis, cloaking technology was already built into the city.
The Ancient Database — Quite likely the most valuable item on Meropis, the database contains millions of years of Ancient knowledge. It holds all the Stargate addresses in the galaxy, information on ZPMs, ascension, alien species, and weapons. The database can be accessed from various terminals throughout the city.
Transporters — Transporters are small rooms much like elevators that transport the user from one section of the city to another. They are similar to ring transporters. They can also function as elevators, moving people to different levels.
Meropis The Planet:
The planet Meropis is on somewhat resembles Earth as it is habitable and has continents and oceans. Not much else has yet been discovered about the planet other than there are various wildlife creatures.
Most of the creatures appear harmless but on our initial expedition searching for the then-cloaked city we discovered a bear-like creature, a horse-like creature and several very strange insects. The scientists are having a great time analyzing the local vegetation and wildlife.
More information will be added as we find it.
