Name Of Race: Etruscans
Homeworld(s): They are of unknown origin, but have been operating in the Triangulum Galaxy for thousands of years.
Technological Advancement: Their level of technology appears to be very high. Similar to that of the Wraith or the Goa'uld, but not high enough to rival Alteran technology.
Any Ships: The size of their fleet is currently unknown. It is believed to consist of more than one "Shakezh" Class cruiser, more than 100 "Zu-Hof" Class fighters, and more than 20 "Gal-Kliv" Class scout ships at this time.
Description Of First Contact: First contact occurred as one of their vessels dropped out of hyperspace near Meropis. A small, "Gal-Kliv" class, scout ship passed by scanning us, before a "Shakezh" Class cruiser, belonging to a "God" named Laran, showed up to cause grief. The Sun Tzu took heavy damage in the resulting battle.
Hostile, Neutral, or Friendly: They are currently understood to be hostile.
Description from Atlantis Database: The shadow creature was an entity that the Ancients had captured for research on Ascension. The entity fed off various forms of energy including; Naquadah generators, active Stargates, and even people. The shadow would also emit an electric charge within itself. The Atlanteans captured the creature by using a containment device that held it in subspace. The creature was left behind when the Ancients abandoned Atlantis. After the Atlantis Expedition arrived, an Athosian, named Jinto, accidentally released it.

The Athosians initially mistook it for one of the shadows that the Wraith produced. Teyla came up with the idea to send it to another planet by luring it through the Stargate by activating a Naquadah Generator and sending it to barren planet M4X-337. The creature managed to get the MALP it was in before it was sent through, though Rodney McKay, using a personal shield he found, went inside the creature and threw the generator through the gate. The creature soon followed through.


Description from Meropis Database from an Ancient: (Translated by Dr. Daniel Jackson, Stargate Command)

"The Etruscan Gods are derived from an unknown species; a species that thrived long ago on certain planets in the Triangulum Galaxy. They exist in their basic form as a large cloud of black energy, feeding off any nearby energy sources, resorting to thermal energy exuded by humans if no other source is available. They seem to have worked out how to inhabit the cerebral cortex of humans, thus possessing them in a manner similar to a parasite/symbiote that we have seen before. They are very intelligent and have amassed legions of followers, whom they are instructing to build starships. We have managed to subdue the bulk of their forces. We have captured three of these specimens to conduct continued research upon. One such was sent to Atlantis.

Unfortunately, after a few weeks of experimenting we have lost control of our specimens. One of them has taken the form of one of us, and fled through the Stargate to Terra. The last reports we have is that he has settled in a region many hundreds of miles east of the Stargate around the equator and is attempting to build ships. The other specimen attempted to do the same in it's raw form, but we have manged to divert the wormhole to an orbital Stargate. The creatures however, can indeed survive in the vacuum of space, and it is unknown where this creature now is. The anomaly in Lantea has now been trapped in a special device, and will be examined in the future. Lantea seems to have a more pressing issue with the Wraith. We are sending personnel to assist."

Earth History: These creatures founded the Italian beliefs in Etruscan Gods. The Ancients did not know much about this other than that one such had settled on Earth for a short while. Eventually, they used ships to escape back to the Triangulum Galaxy, and they are now believed to be there with their armies. Their armies consist of an enslaved or deceived race who, much like the Goa'uld, worship them as Gods. They have since found a way of producing other such creatures and there are now believed from mythology and database files to be at least sixteen of them with armies of their own. We still do not know a lot about the Etruscan Gods, but they evidently are a threat to the expedition, if we ever come across them again. Stargate Command is happy for the expedition to proceed supported by the firepower of our BC-304s refitted with Asgard technology and that the potential findings in Triangulum currently outweigh the risks.

Etruscan Culture & Polytheism was absorbed by the ancient Romans. Although, since they were mostly in Northern Italy, it is possible it could have links to older Celtic (Gaul) Mythology. Etruscan families were centered around the women and possibly matriarchal. It is difficult to know their exact history. When the Greeks came in contact with the Etruscans, they wrote in their own culture and re-named the deities. When Rome conquered what was left of the Etruscans, they destroyed Etruscan written language, broke into tombs to steal their pottery and jewelry, even rebuilt their towns and buildings in Roman styles. These events occurred an extremely long time after the actual Etruscans had left Earth.

Known Etruscan Gods


Full Name: Laran "God of War"
Homeworld: Unknown
Age: Looks to be in early 30's - Actual age Unknown. Estimated at over 4,000 years old.
Species: Etruscan in Human Host form
Threat, Ally or Neutral: Threat
Description: Laran is an Etruscan God. Commander of a space fleet of superior power. In Etruscan mythology, Laran was the god of war. In art, he was portrayed as a naked young man with a helmet and a spear. Laran's consort was Turan. In real life he is far from what he was portrayed.
First Contact: Whilst first establishing a base upon discovering Meropis, Laran attacked our BC-304, The Sun Tzu. Introducing himself to the expedition as the one true God. This hints at dissension and rivalry between Etruscans.


Full Name: Hinthial "Goddess of Love"
Homeworld: Unknown
Age: Looks around 20 years, though actual age could run into the thousands.
Species: Etruscan in Human Host form
Threat, Ally or Neutral: Threat
Description: Known as a "love goddess" to her followers, Hinthial is anything but, using her beauty to ensnare men, who she then enslaves or kills. She is incredibly temperemental, and obsessively vain. She refuses to ally with any other Etruscan God, believing herself to be superior to anyone of any race, including her own.
First Contact: Yet to be established.

Etruscan Warriors

Overview:

Initial contact made when The Sun Tzu arrived in the Triangulum Galaxy. Little is known of the Etruscan warriors at this stage, other than their resilience to firepower having required almost an entire P90 clip to bring them down. When destroyed their armor seems to self-destruct with a high pitched warning whine, destroyed the immediate surroundings similar to a frag grenade. During the battle of Meropis (Episode Three) Etruscan warriors aboard scout ships were able to harmlessly pass through the ancient shields.

It is believed these warriors have been encountered in 2008 by Lt. Colonel John Sheppard's team aboard a reality jumping Daedalus. The report describes an at that time Unknown Alien Race that seemed to inhabit the Pegasus galaxy when the team were transported to an alternate reality by the A-R drive found on an variant of the Daedalus which appeared over M35-117. It is believed from Meropis files that these warriors are innocent Triangulum inhabitants that have undergone some sort of subjugation process to convert them into what they have now become.


Atlantis Reports:
Mission reports from the alternate reality Daedalus indicate that these warriors seem to be very strong in that one was capable of defeating Ronon Dex in hand-to-hand combat. They also seem to be very resilient to weapons fire, as it took several rounds from a FN P90 Personal Defense Weapon and from Ronon's Particle magnum to take one down. They have some sort of synthetic implant in the left side of their skull that can be seen flashing red by the naked eye and seem to have a weakness to bright lights.

Meropis Information
In August 2010, data from the ancient Lillith's secret lab on Meropis revealed that she was directly responsible for the creation of the Etruscans 10,000 years ago. At this time it is not known why as her journal seems deliberately sabotaged after this entry, research is ongoing.

SM-2 Mission Report - December 2010
SM-2 had attempted a covert mission to EROS (K3X-779) which is now a fully occupied Etruscan enslaved stronghold in our sector of the galaxy. The mission failed as after a brief encounter with the missing Andrew McManus, SM-2 were detected by what appeared to be a new and not previously encountered form of Etruscan warrior. These warriors were elite, swift and nimble and able to best team members with ease. It was only due to the use of almost entire ammunition clips as well as grenades and knives that a few of these elite warriors were able to be killed. Furthermore, on SM-2's departure the alarms were sounded. This mission proved that the Etruscans are a formidable warrior race, perhaps even more so than the Goa'uld and on par with the Wraith.
