Zero Point Modules (aka ZPM)
Purpose: Power Source
Race Of Origin: Ancients
Any Other Components: Standalone capsule which can be retrofitted with Ancient systems or Earth ships
Brief Description: It works by drawing power from sub-space utilizing zero-point energy, it is the most clean efficient power source in the known universe. A Zero Point Module is a large, semi-transparent group of crystals about two feet tall with a circular base. The devices glows yellow when active, and is a dark shade of red when inert. A ZPM houses a pocket of subspace-time known a the quantum foam (subatomic wormholes constantly opening and closing and fading in and out of subspace). Zero-point energy is extracted from this pocket until it reaches maximum entropy, at which point the pocket collapses, leaving behind a useless shell.
Current Known ZPM locations
> Atlantis x 2 - On New Lantea, partially drained from recent wormhole drive activation
> Meropis x 2 - One found on arrival and the second taken from K3X-779. 2 x ZPMs allow Meropis to power shields, cloak and to dial Earth
> The Sun Tzu x 1 - Removed from the Antarctic Outpost and used to vastly improve the ship's systems.
> Antarctic Outpost x 0 - Formerly one until the chair was destroyed at Area 51 by the Wraith.
> Odyssey x 1 - A ZPM is currently fitted to the Odyssey to improve the ship's systems
> Stargate Command x 1 - Used to dial Atlantis and Meropis, built by Jack O'Neill
