So I've been toying with the idea quite a bit recently, and decided just to give it a go. This is a place where we can all discuss books. If you look a book, post it here! Tell us more about it, and tell us why we should read it!
Now, myself. I'm a huge history nerd. At one point (Back when I was still a happy, cheery, motivated youth in school), I wanted to major in history. Now, specifically I like the Napoleonic wars, as well as the world wars. My first book isn't about the latter, though.
Mr. Midshipman Hornblower.
This is the first book in a series that follows Horatio Hornblower, the son of a Doctor, in his career in the Royal Navy. It starts in the year 1794, as Hornblower joins his first ship, HMS Justinian. He quickly develops a feud with the senior Midshipman. As you read this book, you will notice that most of the book's content is a bit episodic. Every chapter, so to say, focuses on a particular incident. For example, one will have the young Midshipman in command of a prize ship, while the in another will have him be at his examination for Lieutenant.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the age of sail, Naval warfare, and adventure.
Lastly, some may know this, some might not. A series of television films has been made (1998 - 2003). I personally saw the films before I had a chance to read the books. Having done this, however, I would definitely recommend you read the books first. As usual, the books are simply much more informative. That's not to say the films are bad, though. On the contrary. I will not discuss them now, though, as we focus on books here!
