Episode Six-The Eye of the Storm, pt. 1

[Fiona Maccafferty]

While the expedition welcomes Dr. Rodney McKay having arrived on the Apollo from Atlantis, the science team detects a storm that seems to make its way across the planet annually. The storm brings with it some very unusual side effects causing the team to have flash forwards and memories from things that may not have actually happened yet, some are effected worse than others. The storm also prevents a lock from being established with the Stargate, with injuries mounting the team need to act fast to ensure the city survives the weather. The senior command group begin the episode by addressing the rumors of a spy on Meropis, but things soon get out of hand. Meanwhile, SM-4 have brought back a mysterious girl through the Stargate called Hanyuu, other than her name she remembers nothing but she was found in stasis in one of Lilith's abandoned labs, what mysteries does this girl hold?

Fee sat in front of the computer, typing as fast as she could, her brain working faster than her fingers, and thus, frustrating her. She really needed two MORE hands, to work two computers at once. She was trying to keep the communications and general power mainframes secure in the wake of an oncoming storm; Ryan Alexendar had given her the heads up that something was brewing. He was some kind of weatherman in the Marines...or something?! At any rate, she worked as fast as she could, given that she wasn't at her usual station, but instead hanging out in the labs, keeping an eye on both Michael AND Blue. The former because she was, well, maybe a little bit in love. The latter because Fee seemed the only person that Blue got on with much. The two others were at work-Black was doing some kind of research about someone called Hinthial, and Blue was...what the hell WAS Blue doing?! 

She raised her eyes for a moment. 

Yagami, what ARE you doing?! Dr. Black, are you staying hydrated? She felt a little silly, but Dr's. Harrison, Kells, and West had only released Black on "probationary status"-as long as he kept himself well, he was OK to work light duty while he recovered fully. So Fee made it more or less her job to make sure he was OK, which usually involved forcing fluids, food, and a general mother-hen approach onto the man. 

Aear was gone; he'd gone to his home planet for awhile, with a promise to return. He seemed well enough, but Fee couldn't help her worry; he WAS her friend, after all. Oh, well. She let out a sigh, and returned to her task. Nothing TOO major seemed to be going on; no strange Gate dialings, no rodent-like creatures (She didn't care WHAT Michael said; they were creepy), and certainly nothing too alarming. A few random code changes-damn that Cat, and some inputs from the Gateroom people-Fee didn't actually handle those codes most of the time; her expertise was more or less in network management along with physics. She wasn't a true "scientist" in the sense of the word; preferring actual hands on engineering-building rockets, torturing atoms to reproduce star births, and coding-the more she could move around, the better. And she LOVED Maths. Which might be weird. 

Finally, she noted it was time to meet Dr. McKay. She had briefly met him once, awhile ago, whilst working as an intern at NASA; he'd come through to look into a sim she was helping to code. He was nice enough, though she'd only said Hello politely. Hopefully, she'd left a good impression if she'd left one at all. She spoke aloud once more. 

All right, Dr. Black, Fee was careful to keep her personal feelings to herself for the time being-they would need to discuss it, but there never seemed to be a good time, and she wasn't really interested in getting harassed about it. Let's go find everyone and get Dr. MacKay down 'ere to have a looksee at this storm. Since the Koan incident, the unarmed "Geek Squad", as they were called sometimes, weren't allowed to wander about base during working hours except with another person (preferably one that was armed), but since Michael had a "way" with the Koan, Fee assumed that she was safe enough with him in the short time they'd need to go upstairs.

Having arrived only a few days ago Finn hadn't truly unpacked yet. Sure he had gotten his clothing out and stuffed his baggage out of the way, but he hadn't made the place feel like home... Maybe it was because something inside him still thought it was a dream of some sort... Or maybe he just didn't believe what he was seeing. Just the thought that these ancient gods were in fact real was amazing! Granted they weren't actually gods in the mythical sense... But still.... The one down side of this was that he owed apologies to a few people back home.... Which was millions of light years from home.... His thought process had been going like this for hours. Both the sci-fi nerd and the historian in him were excited beyond words, but the Kennedy in him was alittle bit homesick. He couldn't help but think of the family gathering he'd be missing. Sure they would understand that he was busy on 'the expedition of a lifetime!' and that it was 'too far away for me to make it.'.... Granted they didn't know he was talking about another galaxy. But none of that would stop him now! Damn! The chance to meet a real live alien god thing was awesome!

With a grunt he placed his last bag on his bed, this was the one he was hesitant to open... Because this one meant he was now calling this place home... And he still wasn't sure why he was here... Or if he even belonged. He unzipped his bag and began to take out the various items inside, a stack of novels, a few eyeglass care kits, hairbrush, and his trusty archeology kit. Then he laid eyes on the package, it came in the mail a few days before he left. He tenderly pulled the package out and sat down it wasn't a large box, it was rather small in fact, about medium sized. It was from Keyik, a friend he made while on a dig in Turkmenistan... And came to care for more than alittle. When he got it he was told not to open it until he was at his 'expedition' and that it would help him feel 'abit closer to home'. As hard as it was he managed to wait long enough to get it here unopened... And now he was opening it. Carefully he opened the box and looked inside. A small smile crossed his face as he saw the picture that was inside. Pulling it out he took another long look at it before placing it on a desk... table....... thing.... Whatever it was it was next to the head of his bed. It was a picture of when he first met Keyik, she was standing there beautiful and serene as he remembered and he was there with his face covered in dirt and some random trinket he had found. He didn't even want the picture to be taken they were suddenly ambushed... And boy was the flash on that camera murder. After setting the picture just the way he thought was best his gaze drifted out the window..... porthole.... thing.... Whatever.... "Ominous clouds, eh." He mumbled to himself for no real reason than to just hear a voice.

One of the Technicians in the control room straightened as the Apollo dropped out of hyperspace."The Apollo has arrived." She then listened as the Apollo came into orbit over the city."Apollo to Meropis, Requesting permission to beam down our guest." The technicians look around at each other, before someone responded. "Meropis Control to Apollo, you have permission to beam down in front of the 'gate." A moment or two later there was a white blue light just a metre in front of the farthest point the unstable vortex would form, this grouping of particles formed into Rodney Mckay and his things, though he was still holding his tablet, he wanted to compare the databases of the city, he even has some experimental storage crystals in his bag, something he wanted to see their true capacity, and ancient databases where gigantic.

One of the guards moved and picked up the bag from the ground. "Ah, be very careful with that, it's contents are far more valuable than you are." Another guard came up to him and gestured for him to make his way up the stairs. Rodney followed looking for one of the people he was expecting to meet, that or someone very important looking, he found someone who seemed in charge in the control room. "Ah well inform um, whats his name..." Rodney moved his finger in his usual thinking motion, "...Conway, I've arrived and if he or anyone else wants me, even some universe, galaxy or planetary disaster is about to ensue, I'm down in your main science labs, down the tower, I assume you know what I mean." Rodney then walked away toward the main tower science labs as someone tried to follow him."I've lived on an ancient city ship for six years, please, I know my way around."

Rodney materialized inside the transported before stepping out into a corridor in front of a small redheaded woman and another man, both of whom he didn't know the name of, they they had the air of the smarter kind, it seemed though they were after him at least that was the look on their faces."Doctor Rodney McKay, but are either of you a Doctor Black or Maccafferty?" He'd been told they were the ones he needed to talk to, at least to help him get his search of the database and run his other experiment or two while he was here.

Here sat a man who was just pleased to finally have been released from the infirmary, it had been a couple of months of long and arduous recovery following his run in with Dorane and the modified retrovirus. He couldn't deny that Dr. Kells and Dr. West had done a great job looking after him, but Dr. Michael Black now felt he was where he belonged, sat across the room from Fiona Maccafferty with his head buried in a laptop. The sharp Irish accent of the woman who'd kept him from going over the edge rang across the room to him, snapping him out of his trance,
"Yagami, what ARE you doing?! Dr. Black, are you staying hydrated?"
"Wuh? Err, yes." He lied, immediately grabbing the water bottle on the desk and gulping down about half of it. Black's mind hadn't really been in one piece after the incident, he couldn't explain it to anyone, not even Roger Harrison with whom he'd spent more than a few afternoons. He just wanted to get back to focusing on his work, and if he could, making a difference that might save lives somewhere in the universe.

Things were quiet lately, Almeda had obviously been locked away in a stasis chamber and buried beneath the city, having revealed her true purpose to them all in quite a dramatic fashion. Aear Charter was off world reconnecting with his people after the incident that had brought him to Meropis and, just for a moment, there were no aliens for Michael to admire. He'd been put on light duties and was choosing the time to try and do a bit of research on the Etruscans using a combination of old Earth texts and the ancient database. It seemed that this Hinthial who currently occupied K3X-779 was often portrayed as a Goddess of Love of some sort, he smirked at this line of text and glanced at Fiona, before hurriedly glancing back at his work.

"All right, Dr. Black, Let's go find everyone and get Dr. McKay down 'ere to have a looksee at this storm." Fee's accent got him again, snapping the British native to attention. He'd forgotten that today was the big day that Dr. Rodney McKay would visit Meropis. In a way, Black was looking forward to it, despite the man's arrogant reputation he'd read some of the mission reports and had more than a few questions of his own.
"Excellent! Yes! I've almost finished my research and I might have a vague idea just who the Etruscan was that McKay had that very close encounter with back on Atlantis. I'm sure he'll be interested to find out." Of course, there was the small matter of a raging storm approaching that the team had been asked to look at first, but Michael couldn't contain his excitement for much longer. The storm would just be a matter of a few calculations to ensure the shields were up to the task before they could crack on with the real work, they had so much to discuss!

Before the duo could take one step toward the door, in came Dr. McKay, almost on cue.
"Doctor Rodney McKay, but are either of you a Doctor Black or Maccafferty?"

"Err... Yes, I'm Dr. Michael Black and this is Fiona Maccafferty." He said, beaming and extending a hand toward Rodney which was promptly ignored much to Michael's dismay.
"If you don't mind Dr. McKay," he continued, "there is some sort of storm on the horizon we've been asked to take a quick look at, then we can settle down to the real stuff. I've managed to find out a little about the Etruscan that almost err... Ate you..." He trialed off under Rodney's stern gaze, whilst it was amazing to meet the man himself, it was a little intimidating, to Michael at least. Outside, visible through the tall frosted window at the end of the lab, it began to rain lightly.

She took Michael's hand as they moved to find the rest of the "Team" and Dr. MacKay. She just wanted to make sure he was OK; it wasn't meant to be any more forward than that. However, if it WERE, that was about as forward as Fee Maccafferty would get. Michael didn't seem to mind, and the others, per usual, ignored them.

Michael replied to her questions, the intonation of his Devonshire accent a stark, almost comical opposite of her rough Irish brogue.

Wuh? Err, yes... Fee gave him a LOOK; she knew better, but decided to not say anything. She knew well as anyone that keeping a scientist away from their craft spelt idleness, and idleness, for the brilliant, meant trouble. Plus, if she were honest, she liked his close proximity to her; it was far more comfortable than the infirmary and the stupid, hard plastic chairs. She could've made herself comfortable on his bed; he had said he didn't mind, but she didn't want the appearances of anything wrong, though she was very certain that Dr. West wouldn't notice, and Kells and Harrison wouldn't mind. Excellent! Yes! I've almost finished my research and I might have a vague idea just who the Etruscan was that McKay had that very close encounter with back on Atlantis. I'm sure he'll be interested to find out. She nodded, and smiled lightly. She enjoyed hearing about his work.

Do tell! They stepped towards the door, and just as they did so, a figure appeared, seemingly magically, at the door. Dr. Rodney McKay! She dropped Michael's hand, and blushed. The man spoke, his American accent filling the room. Fee moved slightly closer to Black; her natural reaction to men, anyway.

Doctor Rodney McKay, but are either of you a Doctor Black or Maccafferty? She just nodded, and was grateful when Michael made the introductions. She smiled a bit when he gestured to her, but then dropped the smile when the man ignored Black's handshake. Ah, rather like Glavish, were we?! That's OK; Fee knew how to handle people like that, and that was with a little bit of Irish, and a whole lot of ignoring-she would see how HE shaped up. With luck, she'd not need to feed HIM to the Koan like she had threatened Mik. She simply stepped back.

Aye, as Dr. Black said, I am Dr. Maccafferty, technically, though I don't like the Doctor part. Most people just call me Fiona. Over here are the databases; General Conway mentioned that you were interested in those, sir? She indicated her station; it was very hard for her to relinquish control, but Conway had promised her he wouldn't monkey with "her" systems, as Dorane had. She was STILL cleaning up the bugs from that episode.

She looked up as the three military personnel came in. The other redhead; Miss Stevens, followed by Kennedy, a fellow Irishman, and Glis de Vos, a man whose very size frightened her a bit. She was, as usual, the smallest person in the room, and she slunk back further, behind Michael once more, and waited for someone to make a move.

Izzy had been up early that morning; an "emergency" in the clinic had roused her from her rack at 0600. Somehow, an Army engineer had cut himself pretty badly and needed stitches. The docs were in a meeting, and she was the Corpsman on duty. She had gotten the man cleaned up-was it terrible that she felt a bit of glee in pouring a lot of peroxide on the wound?! The man had helped, and teared up. Izzy had nearly laughed, but caught herself. She wasn't a sadist, but these Army guys were weenies. They usually were, however; she much preferred Marines. They were tough. They were USED to the way that Navy corpsmen handed out Ibprofen like candy, and used phrases like "Wash your socks and walk it off." She had been trained in medicine, sure, but she was no doctor. Hell, she wasn't even technically a nurse. She was just good at first aid. Anyway, that minor crises had been diverted, the man had been looked over by West, and then sent on his way, and Izzy got some breakfast, her P-90 and made her way to the labs. She was totally not sure what even went on in there, but whatever. Orders were orders.

She stood outside the doors with Lt. De Vos. She stood at attention, holding her salute, and waited for the man's order. After he issued the "at-ease", she took a place at the door as sentry. She would do whatever the man asked of her, but for the moment, her skills weren't really needed.

"At ease, Sergeant" Gijs said. He was sure that the woman held a rank that wasn't Corporal, but he didn't know it. Or he did, but was simply unable to link the insignia to it. So for that reason, he simply used the closest equivalent of the Dutch Navy, going off the stripes. He had never worked with the American Naval Enlisted personnel before. The American Army during flight training, yes. The Air Force in Atlantis, yes. The Marines, also in Atlantis. But never the Navy.

He opened the doors and went through. "McKay?" he asked in surprise to seeing McKay here. What on Earth was he doing here? The pair had worked together once or twice in the Pegasus Galaxy. They'd also see each other on a somewhat regular basis at Atlantis' Mensa chapter. The Lieutenant was always referred to as 'That Dutch guy', or some variant of it. He approached the Doctors and turned to Black. "SO, what am I doing here?" he asked.

Finn had been just about to open the letter when he heard commotion at his door, he looked up just in time to see a redhead poke her head in the door and tell him to follow. After a moments confusion, after all... A redhaired girl suddenly showing up and wanting him to follow her didn't happen very often for him... Come to think of it this was the first time. Grabbing his jacket and putting it on he slipped the letter into his inside jacket pocket and decided it was probably safe enough to follow this little group here. His confusion vanished when he say Dr. McKay, no he had never met him personally but he had heard about the man. His sister would go on for hours about him, offering a handshake (which was ignored) Finn introduced himself and walked towards the back of the group... He wasn't sure what it was but he just didn't feel up to being in the middle of everyone at the moment.

When they made it to the labs he felt a sense of unease tickle at his spine when he saw the guards standing at the door... It wasn't so much the guards rather the guns. "Umm... Why do we need the guns?" He asked turning as he walked pass them never once did he turn to stop facing the guards until he was inside the labs.

It seemed Doctor McKay had almost startled them; either by presence or reputation, not to forget brilliance however he wasn't verbalizing these so he was getting less people unfriendly, which was good, or at least it's what Jennifer would say about it. "Err... Yes, I'm Dr. Michael Black and this is Fiona Maccafferty." It was then Doctor Black reached his hand out, Rodney Ignored it, both out of his personal sense of security and his hypochondria, he hoped they wouldn't take it too personally, he didn't shake many peoples hands. He didn't say anything but something changed on the woman's face. It didn't matter to Rodney, he was smarter than both of them.

"If you don't mind Dr. McKay, there is some sort of storm on the horizon we've been asked to take a quick look at, then we can settle down to the real stuff. I've managed to find out a little about the Etruscan that almost err... Ate you..." Rodney seemed a little tense particularly at the almost being eaten part. "Ah yes the energy being, we now know is the normal form of the Etruscans. As for this storm, what is so significant about it?" He wondered but he also found the propensity for the Ancients possibly picking or in this case terra-forming planets that then have horrific storms, maybe they weren't as smart as everyone made them out to be, at least in the safety sense, opposite to Rodney who was often accused of being paranoid.

They walked in as Rodney asked his question. "Aye, as Dr. Black said, I am Dr. Maccafferty, technically, though I don't like the Doctor part. Most people just call me Fiona. Over here are the databases; General Conway mentioned that you were interested in those, sir?" Rodney nodded. "My main reason for being here, I'm looking for anything that can help us fight the Wraith in Pegasus, and particularly anything we can find out about ZedPMs mostly so Atlantis, Meropis and Earth can have more than sort of one or two each, I assume you see where this is going?" It was pretty obvious even Zelenka would have got the inference, they were looking for ways to manufacture ZedPMs among Wraith and Etruscan weaknesses, he did like the sir, it felt good for his ego.

He turned as the foot steps of three others came closer. "An Entourage? Well aren't we all so special, seems Conway gets the idea of protecting the brains." He made his smug smile before someone called his name. "McKay?" That voice was familar to Rodney, but not to the point he remembered name. Rodney turned. "Little busy here Dutch." He picked up on the guts accent and from straining his memory it might have been the right fit, he turned back to the scientists before another man came in He didn't answerr the mans question about the guns, it was pretty clear, Rodney and his intellect couldn't be risked, nor the still intelligent though less so than Mckay's other sciensts. "But before we get onto saving multiple galaxies at once," He said with his usual non life threatening, galaxy saving, superior but casual tone. "This storm." He moved over to the appropriate terminal and began entering commands, it was very quick and he was taking it all in.

Tapping away at the commands he made a few hmms before he turned quick, his balance was threatened. "The storm itself isn't the concern it's this." Rodney turned again and sent the display to a screen so all or most of everyone could see. "with the shield up the city should be far more than fine. it's this particular type of radiation." He indicated to it. "Not so friendly, Any of you know what it is? if you guessed temporal radiation, you were correct." Rodney explained as he turned finger in the air. "Might still be a good idea to power down all Earth based systems that we don't need for a while or isn't heavily shielded or otherwise protected from electrical surges, radiation it might cause a few Funky problems, but at least we should be able to take some detailed and up close reading of the radiation, making an Alternate Reality drive more likely to be achieved in your life time after all mostly what we need is a what to safely control the radiation and then we get AR drive." Rodney planned on finding a way to out live his organic and or physical body.

Fiona just watched, carefully. She was a tiny bit possessive of the Base's computer systems...well, more accurately, it's codes and mainframe hardware, but that was for good reason. Namely, it took a LOT of work to maintain it and she really did NOT need some over-puffed psudeo-military scientist to mess it up. She could THAT on her own. She looked at Michael, and then back to this Dr. McKay. The tiny redhead moved closer to the man to observe...and to stress out.

The man spoke.

Ah yes the energy being, we now know is the normal form of the Etruscans. As for this storm, what is so significant about it? Fee flickered her gaze to Michael. It was a LARGE storm; and certain to be destructive. It has also had an intense amount of energy attached to it; that concerned her since the systems were still shaky from Dorane's interference. Yes, it had been weeks. BUT, she and Blue were the only ones who did them, and she spent half her time UNDOING what Blue did to make it NASA/SG standard.

My main reason for being here, I'm looking for anything that can help us fight the Wraith in Pegasus, and particularly anything we can find out about ZedPMs mostly so Atlantis, Meropis and Earth can have more than sort of one or two each, I assume you see where this is going? Fiona nodded; Dr. McKay was brilliant, for sure, but he didn't have three doctorates from Trinny nor an IQ of 185. She didn't point that out, though; Fiona thought it weird that she was 28, tiny, and had earned that many degrees. It was as if she should be an adult when she felt one, too awkward, and two, was the size of a ten-year-old. Most people had difficulty taking her seriously.

I suppose it's possible; but is it likely?! Fee wouldn't know; she wasn't a sociologist or an archaeologist. To her, if it wasn't explainable by logrithms or alogrithms, it WASN'T possible. She was fast realizing that up here, that didn't matter much.

Dr. McKay went on, and Fee was getting a tiny bit annoyed at Michael's silence.

Of that, she was very sure. She turned to see Michael. Why was he not jumping in to her defense?!

Science. Science solved everything. It was about do it again when the revelation about this 'temporal radiation' had arisen. Dr. McKay had announced what Michael Black already knew, he was here on Meropis to find out more about ZPMs and the Wraith. Michael knew this because he had already been doing the exact same research alongside work to combat the Etruscan threat, not that it mattered now, Rodney was here. And on he went, Michael bit his tongue and instead issued a firm British glare toward the man, which was really more of a squint. It went un-noticed as the Atlantis expedition member prattled on.

It wasn't until McKay mentioned shutting down all non-essential Earth systems that Michael's attention piqued. He knew the General wouldn't be happy with that, but the senior command were all in a private meeting right now so he couldn't ask just yet. Rodney seemed excited about the radiation that appeared to be swirling around in this approaching storm, Michael was just worried about keeping it at bay, keeping Rodney away from breaking anything and keeping Fee away from breaking Rodney. Michael kept his silence for the meantime, something else was on his mind.

"My shield's always up." Fiona replied, "But I will stop all non-critical programs. It might not be many; General Conway has standing orders as to what I run and what I don't. I can cut access to the jumpers, perhaps, but I guarantee that the shields are up and will stay up."
This game of careful conversation had gone on long enough, Micheal decided to speak up.

He said turning to the rest of the room as Rodney replied.

"If everyone else is going to focus on protecting all the electrics and unplugging the fridge, can I just make a suggestion?" Michael asked, "I'm err.. I'm going to pop out for a bit." He winced and looked away toward the window, he knew Fee would blow up when she heard that. He could see the rain trickling down the window pane, and the dark clouds were thickening by the minute. There wasn't a suggestion of any thunder or lightning yet, but it certainly looked miserable. They still had time. When pressed, Michael replied.
"I'm going out there. I'm going out whether anybody comes with me or not." He said sternly, folding his arms, "The Koan are out there and while you people still think they are monsters, they've gotten over their torment at the hands of Dorane- AS HAVE I!" He said holding up a hand to interrupt Fee before she could protest, "They'll almost certainly be killed if these readings are correct, the least we can do is offer them shelter in one of the lower cargo bays. I'll even stay with them if you're worried about them killing anything. The fact is we can't abandon them to death out there... Is anyone coming with me?"
He gestured toward the window, yes Michael was a little passionate about these creatures but he felt he'd made his point. The Koan had been given tents and basic medical supplies. Although not on the same level as the ancients, they still had enough intelligence to erect the tents and construct a make-shift camp from which they could hunt and gather their own essentials. They'd coped quite well since the outbreak and you could even compare them to the Athosians who lived in the shadow of Atlantis for many years. Michael had a soft spot for them and frankly didn't care much about the base itself, he was sure it had survived many of these storms before and it would continue on again after this one, he wasn't as sure about the creatures though.

Finn felt like a fish out of water, he had no idea what any of these things in here did. It wasn't like he didn't know how to work a computer, but these weren't the computers he was used to seeing back home... In this case 'home' being Earth. He glanced around the room doing his best to suppress his almost natural urge to touch... Well... Anything! He had developed a habit to hold stuff that was new to him... Now of course he didn't grab people or animals or anything, but what ever this thing on the table in front of him was... Well... it was fair game... But he managed to resist, after all he was the new guy here, so he just listened. He had gathered enough to know that these "Wraith" were bad new, same with these "Etruscans" who apparently weren't the same human Etruscans he thought of when he heard the word. But all this science stuff was over his head... Until.... "Wait," He said taking his right hand out of his pocket and straightening his glasses. "Temporal Radiation? You mean like Tachyon particles in Star Trek?" He asked in his usual inquisitive tone mixed with his Irish charm. He may not have had many, none of them... Well... The one that he had that was of any note... It wasn't in science... But he sure did watch alot of sci-fi and that had to count for something! Hell! He was on a different planet for crying out loud! And in many cases science fiction was the precursor to science fact. "I don't know if any of ya have ever watched Star Trek, But Tachyons weren't always good news." Granted they weren't always bad news either... But still.

His hand went back into his pocket as he listened to the others speak. He didn't plan on speaking up that much in here, it was probably just for the best that he allow the experts talk. His brows knitted together as he tried to put everything he heard into a mental place he could use to understand it better. After a few moments his mind began to wander, not that he wasn't interested in what was being said, it was more that he was just so interested in everything here and hadn't gotten a chance to truly get his bearings yet. Mr. Black suddenly speaking up was able to draw Finn's attention back. He could tell by the Irish woman's reaction that she cared for this guy, and that this guy's idea wasn't the best one.... He hadn't really gotten the chance to learn about these 'Koan'. It seemed by the argument that was now going on that they were dangerous... But also it seemed there was more to it than that... And if he had learned anything from all the archeological digs he's been on it was that it was a bad idea to judge a whole culture off of one event. After a few moments of thought he finally decided, the chance of meeting a whole new race outweighed the risk of attack... At least it did to Finn. He raised his hand to drawn attention to himself and cleared his threat. "I'll go with him." He said looking around the room raising his eyebrows. "Where's the harm in being a good Samaritan?" It all seemed perfectly reasonable to him. "After all, if we help them, what's to stop them from helping us in return?" True that may have been alittle naïve on his part.... But still, he liked to believe that not every race out there was bad, or looked down on humans in some way.

I highly doubt the Koan will be much help; they're...lesser beings, after all, and while I trust that Dr. Black thinks they're not harmful, I disagree. They BIT him. Why would the bite if they weren't bad? Like a dog? She sighed, and looked around. She grabbed her stapler. Where was Elly with the torches when Fee needed her?! You haven't a gun. I've got me stapler, let's go. If anyone were going to go with Michael, it'd be her. At most, Aear, but she was the best one.

Izzy stood next to Lt. de Vos.

At ease, Sergeant... She raised an eyebrow. She was a second-class Petty Officer...but she didn't say anything. He WAS an officer, and she'd discuss it with her CO, Collins, later on. SO, what am I doing here? Yeah, she'd like to know, too. She was a medic; she SHOULD be in the clinics. Or at least doing patrols.

Someone nearly ran into her. Finnbar Kennedy. Geez, didn't these Irish people watch what they were doing?!

Umm... Why do we need the guns? Izzy looked after him.

It's the Navy, Kennedy. Guns are what I do! She cocked her P-90 to prove her point, but then took a spot just outside the door to stand sentry. She seemed like a third wheel. The nerds discussed things...radiation, and the storm. All Izzy knew was that radiation was a tool she used to diagnose people. BUT she couldn't help overhearing the Irish people arguing with the Briton. She stepped forward.

Lt. de Vos, unless you need me, I can escort this team outside... She offered. At least she could MOVE.

"And have ya miss all the fun here?" Gijs said as he chuckled a bit. "Let's both go. I very much doubt that they will need us here." he then said, having recovered himself. He turned towards the sciency guys and and announced "We're moving out. Call us on the radio if you need us." and with that he turned around and stepped out of the room. He didn't carry a rifle, unlike a lot of other military personnel. He only had the Glock-17 in its holster on his leg. He'd never used a rifle since training other than to keep up with his yearly qualifications. He just didn't like having one with him.
