Stargate Reboot Announced!

Okay so most of you might have already heard but the news just broke recently about the original Stargate film being re-made, and into a trilogy as well! Here is a link www.denofgeek.com/movies/stargate/30738/stargate-movie-reboot-announced-roland-emmerich-directing if you fancy taking a read.

The key points are;
*bluedot*A new trilogy of Stargate films are set to "reimagine" the original film. Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin are attached.
*reddot*The film won't be released until after 2016.

 MGM are fully backing this project which explains why they chose not to follow any further SG-1 or Atlantis interests.


What does this mean for the TWO DECADE legacy Stargate currently has and the masses of existing fans? Will it be a smash hit or will it be an insult to the franchise? THREE films!?

Nothing further at the moment and we likely won't hear any more news for a good year or so if the project starts to gain any momentum. Could it be another Star Trek in that the existing franchise is now an alternate timeline as events in the film are similar but slightly different? Will it mean that in 2016/2017 Meropis will be completely out of whack with the now "canon" series of events? I hope not...

OMG! I was a teenager when the first movies came out....ah the memories. (For the record, I am an old lady).

I just hope that it's not compeletly "Hollywood-ized" like the other remakes have been lately...I wanna see aliens and death and fighting, not kissy faces!

Well...I don't know about that, but...I mean, look how they BUTCHERED Star Trek. O.o And don't get me started on the Godzillas.

Well when are remakes ever as good as the originals?

I loved Star Trek one, but mostly because of the soundtrack. Not as keen on Star Trek 2 but still better than a lot of stuff out there at the moment. They do need to be really careful with Stargate to do it justice. As for the 2016 potential release date? Well, I think it may end up being pushed back. I can see it maybe 2017 if we are lucky. Still rather they picked up Atlantis for another season though!!

I also enjoyed the Star Trek remake but still one remake out of goddess only knows how many done is a pretty poor track record.

I agreed with them picking up Atlantis. How they ended it wast the worst thing they did to the franchise but I figured the IOA had their hand in it lol

Ah yes, a very good point! They sort of concluded it but not really in a way. That is why I was delighted when I found the leaked script for what would have been Season Six opening Episode and then used that for Episode Three of Meropis! Atlantis basically is forced to wormhole drive jump back to Lantea but are forced to stop on the way in the Triangulum Galaxy to recharge the drives or something. Adventure ensues as they say.. hehe.
