Caiden sat down at his desk as he just began his work day. He had a lot of paperwork to catch up on now that the storm has passed and his brain wasn't playing anymore tricks on him. A lot of people came through the infirmary but there was a lot that the Doctor's and medical staff couldn't do but keep people from hurting themselves. Having a storm mess with your brain chemistry and replay past events in your life isn't very good, it messes with you and a lot of times you wouldn't tell the Doctor because of the ramifications it could have against you. People may think they've gone insane or having a mental breakdown, that may very well be true for some people who've managed to last as long as they have in the Stargate Program. It makes a lot of people go insane and gives others PTSD, and they're not allowed to talk about it outside of Cheyenne Mountain, on Earth at least. 


Well now that was over and hopefully everyone is back to normal, no one got seriously hurt and no one died, which is always a good thing, in Caiden's book anyways. It was that time of year to perform routine physicals, which most personnel get more than once, some after every mission, if they are on an off-world team. It's one thing Caiden got good at, he was a trained surgeon, trained trauma surgeon, they don't normally perform physicals like pediatricians or family medicine doctors but he got used to it in the Stargate Program yet likes it when people require surgery, he could do it in his sleep. Just playing with someones insides, stopping the bleeding, repairing the tissue damage, patching them up and sending them back out there to fight against tyranny, it goes against medical ethics but not when you are a military physician. These soldiers, airmen, marines, sailors even love what they do and know the risks and Caiden's job is just to patch them up and that is what he does. He is no psychiatrist or psychologist but everyone needs someone to talk to and if they want to talk to Caiden especially about medical issues or problems then that is what he'll do.

[Maggie Lefebvre]

Maggie had been sleeping since they'd arrived back on Base, on orders from Doctor Harrison AND Eastlyn. Her vomiting on both Mulholland, and then again on the jumper ride back, which nailed a Marine, had the three worried. Maggie was PRETTY sure it was radiation poisoning; unlike most of the world, the French Armed Forces didn't recieve this type of training. Why should they, when they had a perfectly good Foregin Legion to do that kind of dirty work FOR them?! But now, she was up for an appointment. She was to see Dr. West; Dr. Kells had been affected by the radiation, as well, and Doctor Harrison was tending to her.  She dressed quickly, in a usual-for-her outfit of cropped camisole, tight jeans, and high heeled boots. She put her blonde hair up and then made way to the Infirmary. She was still feeling rather nauseated, but so far nothing else was coming up. She knocked once at Dr. West's door, and then waited for him to let her in. She tried not to make a face when he opened it-she still didn't like this man.  Hello again. How long is this going to take?! I need to use the gym. She did. Fighting dinosaurs wasn't exactly her idead of fun, and running cleared her head. She needed to have a sound mind for the next mission. She needed to fight the radiation poisioning. If she had to Gate home on a medical leave, she was going to be VERY annoyed.  She followed him into the exam room and settled herself on the exam bed. Remembering her talk with Dr. Kells, she fought an urge to rearrange her body, and instead just sat relaxed.  Dr. Harrison and Major Eastlyn made me come. They think I have radiation poisioning. She sighed. She just wanted to do her workout and then go back to bed.

Caiden was sitting at his desk when he heard the knock on the door, he went to open it and saw Maggie.
Hello again. How long is this going to take?! I need to use the gym. This woman is always dressed as if she is going to a party, Caiden thought to himself as he saw she wasn't in military uniform, not that she ever was...

"Lieutenant, come on in and have a seat, we'll be quick." Caiden said as she entered his office and he closed the door behind her.

Dr. Harrison and Major Eastlyn made me come. They think I have radiation poisioning. Radiation poisoning...

"Why would they think that?" Caiden asked as he looked up some information in his tablet. "Have you been exposed to any radiation? Are you experiencing any symptoms? Nausea or vomiting? Headaches? Fever? Are you feeling dizzy?" Caiden decided to stop and let her answer some questions before asking more of his questions.

Maggie sighed as West started in.

Lieutenant, come on in and have a seat, we'll be quick. She shrugged, and let him continue. "Why would they think that? Have you been exposed to any radiation? Are you experiencing any symptoms? Nausea or vomiting? Headaches? Fever? Are you feeling dizzy? She gave him a look.

We were exposed to it on that stupid planet, like you were here...that's why. And yes; I've been vomiting since just before we Gated back...first on Mulholland, then on Sgt. James. A few more times when we got back. It's worse in the morning, but does last all day. I can't keep ANYTHING down...and I've been trying to eat more. I had an apple, yogurt and two eggs this morning. They came up before I slept-Dr. Harrison took me off duty for the day. I've been tired, more than usual, lately. She recited the list of symptoms she was experincing so far, and made sure she mentioned that she'd consumed about 300 calories that morning. She'd been aiming for about 1200 a day-something that both she and Dr. Kells could live with for the time being.

She closed her eyes again-the nausea was nonstop. Maybe West would prove himself to NOT be an idiot this time, and actually help her.

Caiden listened as the Lieutenant spoke, We were exposed to it on that stupid planet, like you were here...that's why. "Well, Lieutenant. I will need to draw a blood sample and see what we find. In the meantime, I am going to hold you here and start you on IV fluids since you can't hold anything down. Let's go out to the infirmary and have the nurses set you up." Caiden said as he stood, tablet in hand and began walking out of his office and into the main infirmary where he had Nancy, the nurse start her on IV fluids and draw her blood for testing.

"You may also want to rest. You said you are more tired than usual therefore, relax and we'll figure out what is going on." Caiden said as he began typing her symptoms on his tablet.

Maggie followed Dr. West.

Well, Lieutenant. I will need to draw a blood sample and see what we find. In the meantime, I am going to hold you here and start you on IV fluids since you can't hold anything down. Let's go out to the infirmary and have the nurses set you up. Fluids?! That would work for her. Low calorie, and a day off?!

Yes, sounds reasonable. They arrived at the infirmary, and she let the young redheaded nurse, Stevens, attach the IV and help her onto a stretcher. Dr. West left for a bit (for shame!) so she could change into a gown, and then he returned.

You may also want to rest. You said you are more tired than usual therefore, relax and we'll figure out what is going on. She nodded, and lay back.

I am ready for you to take my blood...how much will you need, anyway? She'd just DONE this the last time she'd seen these people.

Yes, sounds reasonable. Maggie said and Caiden nodded, not like she had much of a choice, Caiden thought to himself as the nurse set Maggie up.

I am ready for you to take my blood...how much will you need, anyway?

"Nurse Stevens, would you draw some blood from the Lieutenant for me? We'll take three vials, that way we have ample samples so we can run a battery of tests and see what is going on." Caiden said answering both the Lieutenant's question about how much blood we're taking and telling the nurse, two birds with one stone.

"Lieutenant, the tests shouldn't take long, once they are done, we'll talk again. Do you have any questions in the meantime?" Caiden asked all the while looking down at his tablet and checking her history.

Maggie smiled at Dr. West, a semi-smile that was half-serious, half-sarcastic. He STILL wasn't earning any points in her book.

Nurse Stevens, would you draw some blood from the Lieutenant for me? We'll take three vials, that way we have ample samples so we can run a battery of tests and see what is going on. She nodded.

What happened to the samples from last time?! It was just a few weeks ago... She sighed. This was the WORST thing that could happen. NOW she was stuck in the infirmary with West for MORE time?!

Lieutenant, the tests shouldn't take long, once they are done, we'll talk again. Do you have any questions in the meantime? She smiled, this time a sexy smile.

Yeah...can you ask Captain Jones to come in here? And then give us a bit of space? She could go for a little stress relief right now.

What happened to the samples from last time?! It was just a few weeks ago... Caiden ignored the question for a moment but then replied, "You weren't suffering from radiation poisoning then nor were you sick, now you are and therefore we need new blood samples, Lieutenant." Caiden said trying to pull rank so he wouldn't have to answer questions and so they can get to work and figure out what is wrong, if anything, she is probably still not eating enough and exercising too much and if she is then she will have to face being pulled off active duty and maybe even returning to Earth at the earliest convenience.

Yeah...can you ask Captain Jones to come in here? And then give us a bit of space? Caiden shook his head, "One, no. Two, you are in the infirmary and living on a city ship and you should know there are no secrets here. I don't intend on you being here that long though, unless you wish to remain here and play twenty questions with me?" Caiden asked with a smile, two can play at this game...

Maggie was having fun harassing and flirting with Dr. West. Anything to get out of actual work was OK with Maggie.

You weren't suffering from radiation poisoning then nor were you sick, now you are and therefore we need new blood samples, Lieutenant... True. She nodded, but smiled flirtily.

I guess you're right. You don't need to keep calling me Lieutenant. Maggie is fine. However, if he dared call her Magpie, he was a dead man. Very few people in this world were allowed to call her THAT. She let out a small sigh, though, as Stevens dutifully inserted a needle into her arm. Next time, Maggie was going to play Caiden's game and pull some rank of her own.

One, no. Two, you are in the infirmary and living on a city ship and you should know there are no secrets here. I don't intend on you being here that long though, unless you wish to remain here and play twenty questions with me? She made her face into a smirk.

One, why not?! Who CARES if it's a city ship?! I am human, aren't I?! And yes, Captain. Pull yourself together and have a bit of fun. It's GOOD for you. I'm not even a doctor and I know that! She shook her head. No wonder she never dated anyone in the Air Force; they were all boring as hell. She fixed him with her blue eyes and went on.

So, are you going to tell me what YOUR opinion is, or are we going to patronize each other some more?!

Maggie settled back as Izzy trotted off with her blood. Damn vampires down here! She sighed, and checked her nail polish. Still perfect. She needed her compact; she wondered if she could make Izzy do THAT, too?!

West replied.

I think, I'll stick with Lieutenant... So she DID make an impression! She knew it!

Well. If you're SURE. It's actually Enseigne de vaisseau de première class, since you want to be by the book about it. She shook her head lightly. She frowned in Izzy's direction; the best science minds in the known Universe and it took this long to read a blood sample?!

West went on again. Could he, like, go away soon?! She had some primping-and flirting-to do, 'cause who was this William Treaty person?! Nice.

One because when we get your test results we will either let you go or hold you and you'll need to get rest. I am sure the Captain is busy anyways but if you must stay then I will notify him otherwise you'll be free to go. And I am a Major, not a Captain, not anymore anyways. I believe my version of fun is also different than your version of fun, but I do know how to have fun. Doubtful. Very doubtful.

Getting nearly sick on a Marine was a sure way to get a one-way ticket to the Infirmary for however long said Marine decided was necessary.

Then, Caiden posed a question.

Well we could patronize each other but I don't have an opinion, not yet anyways. I need to see your test results before I give you my medical opinion. however how are you dealing with our last talk? Are you eating more or did you discard my advice?" She considered for a moment.

It wasn't YOU. I had a chat with Dr. Kells. She seems nice, you know? But yes. Eating more. I gained three pounds until I started getting sick. Are you happy now? She didn't mean it to sound as harsh as it had come out, but she was tired of people monitoring her eating habits. It was her body, her life, and she would live it how she saw fit.

Dr. West was then interuppted by Stevens, who called him over.

Dr. West, sir?! It might be prudent for a urine sample...look at this! She was pointing at a screen. Finally!

Caiden was enjoying the bickering, something he was used to doing with military types and even the civilian scientists, it never got old...

Caiden didn't know but enjoyed arguing, she may not be Air Force or even in the US Military but she is still a military member, "If you want to stay long enough to sleep, go right ahead. I won't stop you, everyone here could use some sleep." Caiden said as a matter-of-fact. Everyone in the Stargate Program at home and abroad are always working late and tough to pry away from their assignments.

Caiden looked at her, "Well Doctor Kells may have given you the same advice but I still said it first, exercising too much isn't good, not if your not keeping up with water and food."

Then the nurse came with results and yeah, no kidding why she is here. Caiden smiled, it wasn't radiation poisoning but she may not be very happy about it, "Alright, Lieutenant. I think the urine sample is prudent then I will tell you what we found. The good news is, that it isn't radiation poisoning. But before I tell you, I need you to give the nurse a urine sample and we'll test that and should have the results within ten minutes or so..." Caiden said and walked away for the moment, he'll talk more when he has the results in hand.

Maggie was kind of rethinking her original opinion of Dr. West. He was kind of OK when he wasn't being an asshole. WHICH he ruined once he opened his mouth.

Well Lieutenant is simpler than well that... She made a face. HE wanted to be called "Major", right, as opposed to her French term for it-Capitaine du Corvette. She tossed her head.

Well. YOU are the one who has a stick in his ass! Now, can I PLEASE go?! I have things to do. She sighed. If she weren't going to be able to harass him, OR have sex, she might as well go work out.

Caiden interrupted her whining.

If you want to stay long enough to sleep, go right ahead. I won't stop you, everyone here could use some sleep. Damn straight. Naps all around! Maybe she could get Achilles to make that a THING since he WAS the XO. She would talk to him today, in fact!

Oh, goody. Shut up, then... She lowered herself onto the mattress a bit more...she WAS tired, actually.

Then, they were interrupted by Izzy again.

Dr. West, sir?! It might be prudent for a urine sample...look at this! Maggie looked at Caiden, confused. Did radiation poisioning cause infections?! He spoke to her, his tone a little bit worrisome, though she didn't know why.

Alright, Lieutenant. I think the urine sample is prudent then I will tell you what we found. The good news is, that it isn't radiation poisoning. But before I tell you, I need you to give the nurse a urine sample and we'll test that and should have the results within ten minutes or so... she nodded. She did need to pee a little, actually. She stood up, reluctantly, and followed Izzy to the ladies' head. The nurse gave her some instructions, and a few minutes later, Maggie returned, handing Caiden a cup with amber liquid in it.

Not all men get my urine, Dr. West. Consider this your lucky day. She tried to see the screen behind him, but she didn't understand what she was reading. Damn it. She wanted to know! She took a seat back on the exam table, and let out a sigh.

Oh, goody. Shut up, then... Caiden gave her a look, then walked away to a laptop on the desk and took a seat.

Not all men get my urine, Dr. West. Consider this your lucky day. Caiden sighed as he sat down and waited for the urine to be analyzed before he informed the Lieutenant of her new problems, potential problem, it may not look very good on her or the father of the baby, especially not if they are both military but that isn't Caiden's problem and he has no idea who the father is, although she was asking for the Captain, so it is a good bet he is the father...

"Oh, how kind of you, Lieutenant. It must be Christmas." Caiden replied sarcastically as the results came through and confirmed the original analysis.

"Alright, Lieutenant I am not sure if congratulations are in order or not, but you are not sick, you're pregnant. Just over a month and a half, it looks like, does that sound right?"
