Aear half ignored Elly and Fee as they slipped quietly past him. Right now they weren't his concern, well strictly speaking they were since he was trying to protect them but the thing he was trying to protect them from took priority. And how exactly was Aear protecting them? With a staring contest that was how. He just stared at the mole creature, secretly wanting to just eat it. They felt full of mana somehow, with their appearance it didn't make sense, maybe, unless those spine were acting like Meowtian whiskers and feeling the changes of the flow of mana. It was an interesting theory but how was he going to prove it?
Aear thoughts on exactly what experiments to do to the poor creature were interrupted. Could they read his thoughts? Whatever it was the creature had launched itself at Aear with enough speed that it actually took him by surprise. Staggering backwards the second one of them wasn't going to as Aear quickly fired a shot upwards striking it squarely in the chest and causing it to fall down the staircase. This thing packs a nice punch he though as he flipped the creature off his back. Aear gave it a good kick to it's chest as it snarled and clawed at him. Yeah right one on one? That was never going to work on-well crap. Aear was knocked to the ground by a second creature landing right on top of him. Seriously he needed his MaDaR back, not that they were casting but the speeds they propelled themselves at he was sure they were using magic. A cacophony of noise broke out from above them, just how many of these idiots were there? Not that Aear had any time to count the individual vocal markers as a telltale whooshing sound split the air and a metal rod slammed into the floor right where his head had been. Seriously? Fine he was eating this one and he didn't care what... And it was gone. Fee had shown her torch at it and it had reared back hissing and covering it's eyes. They were fast little buggers, Aear was sure that was magically aided. The mana from just one would probably give him just enough to keep him fighting through this, magically anyway.
Aear stood himself up as the creatures got even more noisy. They weren't idiots either, he wasn't going to so easily hear one of them sneaking up on them with his ears if they didn't shut up. Aear leapt down into the stairwell to land next to Elly, firing the staff weapon at the hole as fast as it would manage. Hopefully it would shut them up or even hit something, but more importantly he needed to know rate of fire. Aear modified the flow of air around him with the tiniest bit of flight magic, he didn't need to unbalance the stairs and send them all crashing down from the impact. It was a tiny bit of magic but it had been enough to open up the scar over his eye. Aear kept his back to the girls as he spoke still keeping an eye out. "Two things, first, that speed HAS to be magical. Second, I love this thing. Can I get another one later?" Aear kept the staff weapon pointed upwards, unlike Cyleo's staff weapon it only fired in one direction, which was slightly irritating but he'd deal with it. It was also heaver and more of a blunt force weapon then a slice and dice weapon. Still, Aear was well suited to it, even if Elly didn't seem to think so.
