The asteroid was coming right down the centre line, surely this was too good to be true, he carefully looked over the various displays in front of him, the Beam weapons were sitting at above full power, all the rail guns were tracking their target and the vast armament of shipboard nuclear missiles were ready and armed. He hoped he'd hit the asteroid correctly, but he had a program waiting for the railguns to shoot any paces of debris that were to large or were tracking for near the Vanir base ready, all he had to do was hope the Stargate's unstable vortex would open a chink in the Etruscan asteroid's seemingly impenetrable armour and allow him, well more this ship one of the most powerful, a step down from an Ancient city ship to destroy it, he had a feeling something still even if they managed to destroy it would come up, it always seemed to.
He took in a steady breath as it come into visual range. It was still an awesome strength and his sensors came up with warning, they were right in it's path he was sure Major Hunters console was going ballistic with warnings, but the weapons officer quickly double checked his firing solutions.
The seconds slowed as it came into the Stargate's range, he hovered his fingers on the buttons, this was probably worse than trying to pull up in front of it in a 302, this rested on things other than your craft and skill. Riley signaled for Major Booth to open the gate a few seconds early, it hadn't even crossed his mind, they'd gone over that to make sure, they needed the extra seconds, because if the gate was obstructed the wormhole wouldn't form and they would be screwed, not that they couldn't beam a gate, it was just going to be a lot more spit and duct tape that way. "Riley to Booth. Now!"
The weapons officer waited, and waited the vortex burst out of the gate's event horizon making a perfect hole in the asteroids surface, he'd already pressed the button as Riley had ordered him to fire, the Beam weapons burst out in their blue destructive magnificence and slammed into the now exposed core of the object. warnings came on his screen as the weapons completed their firing sequence.
The asteroid exploded and in some places incinerated under the power of the beams, he quickly put the shield back to full strength, they had been reduced in power to give the beams their extra juice, you can't just invent more power from no where, this isn't star trek.
The computer beeped at him as the shields made a low pitched thump as parts of the asteroid hit the shield, he was already on the target of the a few larger chunks, he targeted them with some of the lower yield warheads, the missiles streaked away from their launch tubes and caught up with the tumbling rocks which were quickly vaporized.
As the light and heat of the explosion died, he noticed something, he wasn't sure at first, but ran a senor sweep over it, he hit a few buttons and got a visual reading, it was black, not quite space black but close, and was electrified.
"C-colonel... you need to see this." He adjusted a screen to the centre of the main cockpit view area to the object, it was faintly outlined by its colour by the silver lines like lightening gave it away most of all, as it puled again he spoke up. "there..." He paused. "Is that an Etruscan..." He thought aloud. It had to be. He glanced over his shoulder at one of the bridge science people then to Riley. "If we can capture and contain one..." He was thinking on his feet, it wasn't registering as a life sign on the Asgard sensor per se, a moving energy mass yes, still something he could hopefully beam if it came close he didn't want to test the shields against electricity monsters.
