Callaghan followed the Sergeant out of the cell block, ignoring the other prisoners. They could not babysit them right now. Not with only two combat-ready-ish men. The Major made sure to make a mental note to tell the General, so that they could return in force later. There was no way that these aliens would be allowed to let this go unpunished.
With the rifle's stock held firmly against his shoulder, the Major cautiously moved about the hallways. He quickly searched every room, hoping to find his equipment. Not only would it be pretty bad if the aliens kept their weapons, it would also mean that he had just thrown away a whole lot of money due to the fact that his M416 had been paid for with his own money.
After several minutes, and quite a few laser beams, the Major found their equipment in a room, guarded by two aliens. John fired off one beam into the left alien's torso, taking it down. Before he could fire again at the other one raised his rifle and hit John right into the shoulder hit in the last mission.
He was knocked down, and the alien lowered his weapon to fire again when Oberon rounded the corner and killed the beast with a smaller pistol version of the laser beam. Smiling, John thanked the Prince who then proceeded to help him up. The Major grabbed his stuff. He pulled back the slide of his sidearm a bit and saw that it was still loaded. He put the Glock back into the holster strapped to his leg and then proceeded to check his M416.
The rifle, too was in a good shape. He put the weapon on his back. The laser beam weapon would be a better way to kill the aliens for now. If he ran out of ammo, or whatever this thing used, he could always switch back to his rifle. The Major put all the ammo and whatnot in the appropiate places and finally grabbed the radio.
"All Misfit victors, this is Misfit Alpha. Be advised: all natives are hostile. Misfit Bravo, see if you can secure the gate. If you are able to do so, send a call for support to the General. Delta and Echo, prepare for immediate extraction. Alpha out." the Major said. In return, he only received static. He hoped his message had gotten through, but he feared the worst.
He told Oberon to lead them to the place that held the ZPM. He complied without trouble, and led them through several passageways into a somewhat large chamber. The room was empty, save for a cental post containing the ZPM. The Major pulled it out, and put it away in his backpack. The aliens would soon be there, though.
Immediately, the trio ran to the outside. The guards were not coming to them, though. The palace was collapsing. Could it be that it needed the power to keep it stable? The Major didn't know, nor did he care. He was getting out of there, as soon as possible.
On the steps outside, he found the bodies of two of his people. John was devastated, but he could notlet his feelings come in the way of the mission. Oberon quietly picked up the female, while John grabbed the man by his backpack, dragging him three miles to the gate. Once there, he found a lot of Alien bodies, and almost a platoon of Marines.
Several Marines took over the bodies. A young Second Lieutenant approached John, and said "Major... Captain Oliver got your message. He called for backup but was quickly overwhelmed. He was wounded, but kept on fighting right until we got here. His wounds are pretty bad, though, and I don't think we have the facilities at Meropis to treat him."
John acknowledged it, and dialed the gate. He was going home now. He would fight to get his people the highest awards they could possibly be given. They deserved it, and it was the least he could do.
He stepped through the gate, and found himself back in the transport room a moment later.
